I see a 3 month old toot escaped containment...

@TechBean Maybe an international baseball edition.
You remember the Hawks moving from Osaka to Fukuoka.
You remember the Atoms before the Swallows and the Whales before the BayStars.
You remember the birth of the Australian Baseball League.
You remember the founding of the KBO league in South Korea.
Things like that.
Olympics before NBA players

I wonder how much money Adobe pays Apple every year to keep Apple from including a simple, free, Paint program with MacOS?
@mralancooper Apple even ships TextEdit, the sample document-based Xcode project, as their simple text editor. I'm pretty sure there's a few paint program stubs in the Xcode library, they just need to clean one up for release.

free software is important, but it is only the beginning. it is less than the bare minimum
all software must, at the very minimum, be free software, plus:
- code of conduct that bans transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism, gen-ai, ... (not an exhaustive list, as there are many problematic things i'm not even thinking of right now)
- contribution policy banning gen-ai
- once it grows: have a resilient community around it that won't succumb to the nazi bar effect
- be immune to corporate takeover
- be community-focused; by the community, for the community

can we shout out to the fediverse developers, for making the fediverse possible
shout out to the lemmy developers for not making us be stuck on the other site
shout out to mastodon devs for making us have a better life than on Twitter
shout out to the pixelfed devs for allowing a actual photography platform to exist
shout out to the peertube devs for helping us not be stuck on youtube until the end of time
ETA: Shout out to the server operators who make the stuff be done
to be honest this is kind of a shitpost, but kind of not: pkgconf is so utterly load-bearing that i should probably start thinking about transferring it to a foundation
packagecon, presented by the package configuration foundation

If I knew how to search for posts on mastodon (yes I've been here since 2017 and never learned), I'd boost the old posts from last time
I haven't bothered to learn how to search toots either because I dread what I might find so I just do without necroboosting
(happy 9th mastodon.art anniversary BTW!)
wow, i don't know the history behind this project but i just found a very familiar statement, explaining why a dev is moving on from trying to interact with the open source world. i felt similarly at a few points in the past. https://github.com/markqvist/Reticulum/blob/master/MIRROR.md
"Everything you need is right here. I've provided the tools, but building what comes next is not my responsibility anymore. It's yours."
this is how i would prefer people to approach most of the things i have put online
@bobcromwell this looks like a scene from a cheap Hunger Games knockoff.
