@Holberg Yeah, I'm also blessed with a does-not-care stomach. Once showed up for breakfast on a passenger liner going up along China's coast during a typhoon. I was the only one asking for food that morning. ๐
@tsturm Ha!

The former Harbison's Dairies, locally known as the "milkbottle building", is a prominent local landmark in the Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia. It was long vacant at the time this was captured, but has since been spruced up and redeveloped as a mixed-use commercial space. Surrounding development has enveloped the building; the milkbottle-shaped water tower is no longer readily visible from the street.
Hmm, now I feel even better about minimizing my purchase of new clothing.

2026 is kind of the year where every FLOSS project or organization I still had faith in broke my heart.
AND every project or org I was suspicious of, came around to punch me in the gut; when I was already feeling down.

Before Blexas: chop wood, carry water.
After Blexas: chop wood, carry water.
Iโm honestly not sure why any of these things are so upsetting, or why they think Iโm to blame for them (except for the silly joke, that actually WAS me).
I have no regrets about the silly joke about the national mall.
Yep, we got hit with a pineapple express.
If you want a good example of causation vs. correlation, I have this recurring thing where I'll say something awkward and then another person randomly happens to appear and they overhear it, but it's not because they happened to be around at the very specific time when I said something awkward and instead because Iโm constantly saying awkward things, so it's inevitable that someone will eventually overhear it.
This entire discovery happened when my husband and I were walking down the street and I said "I hope those fat and snorty little creatures want to climb all over me" and a man happened to be stepping out onto his front porch right as I said it, so I think it's important for everyone to know that I was talking about a litter of pugs.
This is an experience many of us have already had. Prior to chatbot-generated prose, we'd never had experience with writing that didn't have a writer. Prior to image-gen output, we'd never had experience with paintings that didn't have painters. At first, the output from these models was remarkable, and often indistinguishable from human-generated words and images.

@pluralistic note thst we'd been having chat bots generating prose for way much longer that the current crop of AI companies would like us to believe.
Quarter century ago, I remember people building markov models on Alice in Wonderland, Shakespear, and the Bible and having fun with what such a model generates (https://www.eblong.com/zarf/markov/), a technique more recently applied to parodying the tangerine tyrant (https://chalkdustmagazine.com/features/fun-with-markov-chains/).
mostly PhDs played with those, no techbro though about selling it
@Holberg You've missed out on some Vomit Comets over the years.
In the summer of 1987, I spent time hitching around rural Ireland with a backpack & tent. On a lark, I rode on a mail boat from Bunbeg to Tory Island, one of the most isolated gaeltachts (rural regions where Irish is still spoken by native speakers) remaining. It was ยฃ2 to go out one morning. Of course then the weather changed & I ended up stranded for 3 days. There was a B&B for ยฃ8 a night. After 3 days, a fishing boat was able to put in briefly & take a few of us back to mainland Donegal. For ยฃ10, naturally. The waters had been & still were too rough. In a raincoat, I clung to a pole on the side of the boat as we skipped across the channel like a stone, bouncing off wavecrests. That's when I learned I don't get seasick. But I suppose I've never been to the big leagues.
Remarkable trip overall.
@thefathippy I seriously didn't know if this was in response to Truck Island or the photo of my boobs.
