@attoparsec "Squish the bottom bracket!" "DON' squish the bottom bracket!" "Squish the bottom bracket! [squish]" xD
Hmm, we had a small hydraulic press for some types of bearings (auto and farm shop.) rather rarely used, but super essential when it was.
Naturally we used it at least often for things it was never designed for.
@gerg thanks for the information. I’ll let everyone know.
@mattblaze @gerg The biggest problem with American democracy is our silly notion of ensuring every vote is counted.
They also have it on their website if you're a adblocker type.
Oh I'm not much of a TV watcher anymore.
Anyway, once you get past S6, I lose interest. lol. The best thing about The X-Files was always what they didn't show, right down to the lighting in individual scenes. Every mythology episode would answer one question and open up three more, leaving you scratching your head. Once the film came out, too much was revealed. They should have just wrapped it. I kept watching, but it was never the same.
@signalstation it sucks so much! but I can tell you from experience that it does not suck as much as even a mild case of shingles
that's what everyone's telling me
I've been napping and drinking water like crazy, and taking heaping medicinal doses of Plan 9 From Outer Space on the tv
it's a great film to check in on as you swim in and out of consciousness on the couch
I made a toy "literate programming" implementation made of markdown files with python code fences. IPython/Jupyter notebooks are the heavy-case, but this is 1000x simpler.
A very toy example: markdown (first), extracted python to run (second).
Enhancements:
I think it would be interesting to exec() the extracted code, but there's obviously some risk there. Another idea would be to copy the surrounding markdown into comments.
You can hook into python's import machinery to do novelties like this
import markmodule
markmodule.import_md("hello_module.md")
import hello_module
print(hello_module.hello())
@WorldTravelerAll7 Good opportunity to make some money.
@mastodonmigration you just made me think, the smart move would be to take the bet that Schumer will be leader. That way I'd win either way. If Schumer is not leader, then I win. But if he is, at least I can use the money to buy some booze and drown my sorrows😉
I contacted my senators over a year ago about removing Schumer as leader. I need to call again. but I'm not expecting a different result😞
It's so disheartening to explain this over and over working in critical infrastructure cybersecurity full time. It's because everyone demands cheap, fast remote support and AI enabled real time telemetry and control. We’ve worked ourselves into this corner through demanding connectivity and I see next to nothing truly airgapped anymore. In fact, it’s impossible to convert some critical systems back at this point.
A lot of our power infrastructure is so complex with microgrids and renewables and real time billing and buy backs that it can’t be switched to manual anymore. A lot of industrial vendors won’t provide warranty support if their remote access is removed.
And this is all happening in super low maturity environments with limited if any cybersecurity resources or tools.
We’re trying, but the state of things is pretty dire, the barrier to basic disruptive attacks is lowering rapidly, and we can’t find enough people who understand the industrial environments and cybersecurity on thirty year old computers fast enough to hire close to enough people.

See Schneier's Click Here to Kill Everybody for a prophetic view of this from a few years ago.
I kid, I kid
Here in the United States, a popular trend among owners of Jeep vehicles is to line their dashboard with little rubber ducks. It's not random though; the ducks have meaning. Each duck represents one full month their Jeep has been in the shop for repairs

This is the cancer of decades of the lesser evil strategy. Yes, the elections went well, and people are starting to realize they outnumber money, but we've spent so much time in the toxic cloud of centrist bs that even these historic wins might not actually be enough, given how much "lesser" evil still remains in the party.
I say this as someone whos own district is repped by a lying zionist fuck. I think Schumer is the more realistic get. Jeffries is already coronated.
@contrasocial Agree that people have been conditioned to accept losing. We need to turn this mindset around. Rejecting a 'leader' with a 13% favorability sould be a no brainer. Let's stop losing.
I'm gonna be really frank here: this is a bad relationship to have with any politician, even ones on your side. You should think of a politician the way you think of a sponge. As long as it cleans up messes, you hang on to it. And when it stops being able to do that, you throw it out and get a new one
I've been spending time on Bluesky over the last few weeks, not posting, just reading. Not because I really want to, but because if you are interested in US election news the fedi is not a great place to get it. (Sigh.)
I am looking forward to tapering that off, though, because I do not need shit like this in my life
"It’s a truism that men experiencing midlife aimlessness may well get their buddies together and start a podcast, even if no one really wants to listen to them speak."
@adwright probably not because unlike Trump, Hitler seemed to be an over performing intellectual sociopath before he went completely psychologically insane. Rather than Trump who is an underperforming idiotic sociopath before going completely senile.
Agree. I'm thinking more the tripping balls on constant amphetamine shots bunker-wall licking part of the Hitler timeline. I've heard the whole maneuvering troops that were already dead bits but in general while he was chewing the scenery was Hitler making like some janitor Field Marshall, the sort of thing we now accept as American Business As Usual these days off of Trump?

Not every message the activitypub can send is suitable for every platform. Reddit style discussions just don’t map to Mastodon.
The most important thing is that lemmy, Mbin, piefed, etc. can communicate freely. You can try to build a platform that does it all but I think it will be messy.

Do we have any Mastodon friends in or near Spokane who could recommend a store that would deliver a new mattress and take away the old one? I need to buy one as a housewarming gift.
the necromancy skill mod adds necromancy as a non-combat skill but clicking on it brings you to the combat ui
some of the skills use the game's normal UI style and some of them are weird transparent hard to read things
