And here's a bottle of coca cola commemorating the 1987 ASU Sun Devils winning the Rose Bowl.

I've never seen a soft drink separate in this manner.

No, I'm not going to open it.

And it was $1.99 back in the day! That was a lot of money then for a bottle with some stickers on it.

@SonnyBonds ...that reminds me, wasn't there some "extended WGSL" thingie which added stuff on top of vanilla WGSL...

Yo, it's this: https://wesl-lang.dev

And here's a huge box of old never built plastic models labeled "plasticville, USA"

@Beachbum Not saying we need a very liberal progressive. What we need is a good leader. A real leader. Chuck Schumer is a miserable choice. We can do much better. Chris Van Hollen would be perfect.

A lot of people are grieving the loss of Kinktober, AO3’s annual group writing exercise where writers upload a chapter or fic every day throughout October based on a prompt of the day. (The prompts are horny, if that’s not clear.) https://www.404media.co/ao3-down-outage-reactions/

@harris ha ha. Yep, one and the same. He's also the guy who wrote gnuUnits, if you know what that is.

All the credit goes to you who actually bothered to implement them, that’s so great to see!!! 😁

I don’t know if such an admin tool as you describe already exists - perhaps the grafana one meets that need? - so I will leave it to those who choose to install the code and become admins (even of just a personal instance) to comment further and give feedback.

That said, the community that you pointed to might be in a weird lockdown state, since I noticed that it has zero active mods. See the sidebar on the home instance and then the modlog offers the further knowledge that the only prior mod has been banned from that instance. If you want to revive it, you could appeal to the instance owner and become the new kid of it?

And that situation illustrates the difficulties that people face when coming here: this place isn’t quite a ghost town, but it is more empty than it is full. The people that have thrived here so far are those who approach it from an IT hobbiest standpoint and are willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work building it. But most people are not willing or capable to do likewise, which turns many away. The tools are still being built, and definitely lack polish atm.

But we are building them nonetheless (well, Mia is:-P, though we can help with suggestions!), steadily over time. So I am less concerned about current number of MAUs than in seeing the challenges be overcome, such as building these tools. Although that requires funding which in turn requires some level of MAUs, thus I am ecstatic about these subscribable blocklists to help keep people from fleeing this place!! 🤩

@nullagent hell yeah

@srinivas I have other presentations and formats that I use in other context, and in other circumstances I would consider pushing them towards one of those.

But it doesn't address the main point here. They're asking for my time, but are not offering to pay for it. That's a sticking point for multiple reasons.

Interesting!

"Man granted first-of-its-kind #ReligiousExemption against mandatory #AI use at work- #Humanist argues that offloading his thinking to #LLMs violates his beliefs, #TitleVII accommodation protects employee"

Wait, what? His religious beliefs are #Secular #Humanism #SecularHumanism?

That's not a #religion...

Shhh 🤫

How the sausage is made is not as interesting as the results. If it works, it works

@georgetakei I love people who talk about solutions.

Snagged from discord, far too cute not to share.

For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.

How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!
