JC: "Do you really love language and words"?
B: "...I do... but not in a weird way."
JC: "Is there a weird way to love words? I don't think so. I think you can love words in any way without it being 'weird'."
B: ".. yeah... I guess so."
So good.
@lightweight 😀 John Campbell is a great interviewer. It’s been marvellous having him on Morning Report.

@Sarahp oh.no.
@georgetakei
Perfect
Now disqualify hin from office and indict him on child sex abuse charges
Well. It's rare for a man charged with rape to be convicted. It's rarer still when he's famous. But that does seem to be what's happened. The creaky, broken, twisted old British justice system would seem to have worked, for once.
For the women who had the guts to speak out, and to put themselves on the line to nail him, it must be a good moment.
Same for the coppers who put the case together, and the lawyers who prosecuted it. It is *very* hard to get a conviction on a rape charge. To get it, they must have done one hell of a job.
Also, spare a thought for the poor bastard who is now going to have to share a cell with Russell Brand, the rapist. May he rot.

Because vibe-coded projects are almost never maintained. Usually they’re abandoned after a very short time.
In the run up to the US midterms, 70% of AI assistants tested sent users to Kremlin-backed propaganda sites
Perplexity, Claude, DeepSeek, Grok, Microsoft Copilot, Meta AI and Google AI Overviews all cited Russian state media, Russia Today, Sputnik or the Pravda network

@gamingonlinux took too long, i've been buying games on Steam.
In case you're wondering how MAGA is handling this stunning rejection of MAGA, Ron DeSantis just delivered a speech blaming trans people for the fact that MAGA ran billions of dollars in anti-trans ads, which he says are the cause of this sweeping defeat of MAGA.
We did it, girls. We defeated MAGA. It's all our fault.

@Lana you won big!
For the past month, every friggin' TV commercial in Texas was "Talarico thinks there are six genders and wants to force transgender surgery on your children".
And we Texans said "we are totally fine with that!"
@jripley Okay, that is interesting.
Say I don't have a need for a microkernel OS, much less a proven-correct one, and what I'm interested in is a very simple microkernel system I can poke with a stick to learn more about microkernels. Is L4 itself still a going concern (eg build tooling works on modern linux, kernel runs on modern computers), and or is there an alternative which is more current or more minimal?
@mcc L4 is inherently so small that it grew forks, and full reimplementations on spec alone, rather than one official "upstream" repository. The original is kind of historical, and I'm not sure any are useful for tinkering purposes.
If it's just microkernels in general you're looking for, Oxide's Hubris (rust-based) RTOS is on paper what a modern design should be like, though it's focused on microcontrollers. I'm looking to move my projects to Hubris (or reinvent the same thing from scratch).
unngh this track is such a sonic treat. love the sparse intro with sissoko noodling on for a bit & then the balofon comes in and grounds everything and it’s like oh baby, strap in, we are listening to music now https://sissokosegal.bandcamp.com/track/houdesti
@Simplicator @mastodonmigration It's absolutely clear that the voters who moved to win this election for Dems would consider spending time on impeachment -- WHICH IS DOOMED TO FAILURE -- as a waste of time and a betrayal. This election was literally all about economics. The price of gas, medical care, etc. In fact, if the price of gas were lower the GOP probably would have won! It's painfully that simple. That's not to say that hearings into corruption and DOGE and other abuses shouldn't happen, just that impeachment per se is a non-starter.
@lauren So the entire Congress should continue blowing off their oath of office, & we should disillusion the bulk of the activist base & tell them in 2028 “you have nowhere else to go,” got it.
Trump is going to pocket that refusal to impeach, double down, & use a Democratic majority Congress as a Vichy government.

I've got two new awesome desk ornaments: microwave oven capacitors signed by both Styropyro, and Electroboom. I happened to network with the both of them at the inaugural SciCom Summit at the Museum of Science in Boston, and I figured that bringing these capacitors to be signed was funny, and fitting.

Hi from normals.me. If you can read this, the federation works
This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.
Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).
What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.
Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.
Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.
Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.
Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.
If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.
I hope we all have fun. Cheers!

It's not vibe-coded and the developer published several FEPs to help others implement same features (e.g. FEP-bebd: Follow Invites)
@DoctorDeathray and accordions, yeah.
@ajroach42 I need to go to this shop.
lol my stock portfolio lost a decent car's worth of value today
apparently my investment account manager had not, in fact, been respecting my request to deprioritize AI-dependent tech companies. also turns out there's SpaceX shares too, even though I made it absolutely clear I wanted nothing to do with anything Elon.
Oh well. It's a temporary market correction and I get to feel smug about being a Cassandra once again.
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
