@sun @apropos @Arkana @Hoss @nerthos Trump and his brain trust to the extent he cultivates one had a bit less than five years after, say, 2015 to figure it out.
The last triggering point would be when he realized Obama and the Deep State were not got to accept a peaceful transfer of power, the "succession problem" which is the biggest advantage of "democracy" AKA republics.
Until it's not and they've dead, unless your kill enough traitors to right things, maybe. Not sure if that's ever worked, didn't for Sulla for example.
The very latest for that was when the head of the NSA told him in so many words, "get the hell out of Trump tower, you are being spied upon" after the election. Trump didn't get it until I'm not sure how long or ever, see again the Flynn affair.
On the other hand, at least until March-April 2019 and the end of the "Mueller," actually (((Andrew Weissmann))), country's most evil criminal prosecutor's "investigation." See also his not replacing post turtle Sessons, only to hire Deep State slug (((William Barr))) as his second AG (the sort of guy who'd defend the FBI death squad's sniper who killed Vicky Weaver).
First impeachment attempt because public mid-September 2019, and was still going on when COVID hit.
So we have something of a leadership failure in dealing with existential threats to his administration, he failed to set up an effective group with a remit to "get us out of this Deep State mess!" which assumes it was possible.
And we should never forget that if Trump has the slightest clue, he knows he's walking a tightrope of impeachment conviction, since it's obvious to anyone with eyes there's a sufficient Democratic and GOPe majority for that in the Senate if they're given enough of an excuse.
Arresting Hillary might have done it. Nuking Iran would certainly do it, although why not go out in a blaze of glory by definitively ending that threat? Except the officer corps wouldn't implement a strong enough genocidal or thereabouts attack for that, and Trump's too soft.
(Yes, I don't hate the Iranian people, but the threat they've allowed to fester for almost half a century often comes with such Bad Ends.)

that's okay i forgive him. this time
