Tin foil hat take: DCU scheduled the d3 football game when they did because they want to keep Spirit from racking up Audi playoff wins when they don't have any
@shauna there have been 8 goals scored in the NWSL playoffs so far. The Spirit have 4 of them

can we shout out to the fediverse developers, for making the fediverse possible
shout out to the lemmy developers for not making us be stuck on the other site
shout out to mastodon devs for making us have a better life than on Twitter
shout out to the pixelfed devs for allowing a actual photography platform to exist
shout out to the peertube devs for helping us not be stuck on youtube until the end of time
ETA: Shout out to the server operators who make the stuff be done
A wildlife survey used to take 9 people 9 months to review 200,000 photos. AI can now analyze similar surveys in hours.
The Jane Goodall Institute expects AI to cut a 13–15 year project to 2 years.
While there are valid reasons to criticize adoption of AI, the productivity gains are now obvious and plentiful.
That's machine learning, but it's not generative AI and it's not an LLM. The useful applications for those are significantly fewer.

The best way to post from Mastodon to Lemmy is like this:
Test post from Mastodon to Lemmy <- 1st line: automatically turned into a title
@Fediverse <- 2nd line: mentioning the Lemmy community
Writing this from Mastodon as a Test. Hello! <- Everything below: the post body
Lemmy automatically turns the first line/paragraph of a Mastodon toot into the title.
@ai6yr I am of the age I don't much care what my t-shirt says and goodwill offers a far better variety of material so I can find nice soft ones lol
@liaizon nice use case there, I bet “all my fedi” alts was not how mastodon imagined this being used 😄
@django you mean this one? https://social.wake.st/collections/117583243611138691 yeah the 25 account cap isn't gonna work too well for me... I will have to make them in batches. I have just over 100 accounts in my "fediverse accounts" bitwarden folder... and that has grown a lot lately as I have been testing a bunch of new pieces of software.
@SimonCHulse interesting, hadn't thought about that. Like the luddites and barbarians, most of us have forgotten the origin of these slurs... @futuresprog
@lightweight @SimonCHulse @futuresprog it’s interesting to contemplate the origin/spread of slurs. Most of our traditional slurs are sexist/racist/ablest/xenophobic and homophobic.
In Quebec culture, many are derived from elements of the Catholic faith!

Any new ones that look like sticking?
Slop comes to mind but that’s not for a person.
@jonesmurphy If Deep Blue to you is AI, then consider that 25 years from now what you call today’s AI will be seen as primitive as we now see Deep Blue.
Just a fast computer pre-computing the value of moves.
@ArneBab @loucyx @tante We agree that AI will accelerate in evolution. So what's your point? Humans fundamentally do the same thing, pre-computing the value of moves in our own way. 250k years or 2.5 million years from now, organic creatures(maybe not our descendants) might surpass humans. AIs might surpass humans. Does this mean current humans aren't intelligent? WTF is this random bullshit?
@ai6yr damn, goodwilll here is running at about $5 a shirt.
dvds are ~$4
I try to shop at the other, local, thrift shop that does discounts of 75%, 50% and 25% off based on whatever color tag an item has
@MsMerope They do that here as well (the discounts on different tag colors)

Each group/sub on Lemmy/Piefed/etc. has an address, like subname@lemmy.website. On Mastodon, you just @ the sub’s handle, and you can follow the handle as if it were a user and have everything posted to the sub reshared to you.
Lemmy doesn’t let you follow individual user accounte, though, so you can’t follow Mastodon users. Just groups. But there are lots of things that are groups. PeerTube channels, for instace.
@suetanvil What's the underlying goal of the community you're working on there?
Why are the folks subscribed to that email list subscribed?
I'm sure this is where you are anyway, but in my experience it's always helpful to start by thinking about the people first, and the technology second.
I want a quick-and-dirty tool for letting a social circle discuss where to go for dinner without needing to sign up for a service.
HELLO FUNNY SQUIRREL! WILL YOU BE MY FRIEND? #DogsOfMastodon
