@NewsHund @elduvelle @gael We're not anti-AI zealots. We're anti-fascist zealots.

"AI” is just the latest shit they're trying to pull.

Talk about missing the forest for the trees…!

@dgar Tried that. It was the wrong message.

In this episode Chakotay wishes the crew would stop asking for more replicator rations however could have solved everything if there was any continuity in the series.

@mcc oh I see! so kinda like the motherboard ~UEFI stuff becomes the hypervisor itself (or somehow avoids the need for one at all, besides I suppose some sort of storage translation)

I guess some swengs come at it from a perspective of "art is touchy-feely crap, I am a Serious Worker who builds suspension bridges" and like, 1) why would you allow LLMs to run roughshod over such important work, 2) you are denying the parts of *all* programming that are "touchy-feely", ie communicating with other humans to understand their needs (ie your requirements), making dependable cogs to run the machinery of human society.

and for contrast, here's something too low for me to sing loud enough to be usable in an unamplified performance. let me know if you can sing this loudly; if you can, you are probably a bass or bass-baritone. lowest note here is A♭2.

IMO "programming isn't art/creativity" isn't worth litigating because there will never be a clear hard line between any given craft's functional demands (which even abstract painters, playwrights, and conceptual artists grapple with in various ways) and its creative/aesthetic/expressive goals. Even if you program SaaS databases for a living, why devalue what you do in some minute way that doesn't usually even matter? Is it that hard to see common ground between what you & other craftspeople do?

It is possible to construct several narratives about how we got from then to now; the corporatisation of sponsorship, the wider reactionary movements against feminism, the normalization of authoritarianism, the centralization and fracturing of online spaces, and most recently those preaching the doctrine of claude et al.

They are all equally true, and just as equally entangled with each other.

Working together to destroy the illusion that there was a space with enough shared ground to work.

Would read this person’s comments again.

@petko tbh, I didn't even read that far. I read Eli's first reply on the mailing list, and noped the fuck out. It's only been downhill from there, and that first message was bad enough as it is.

Pylova is a mostly pointless reactionary fork that came out of some drama perpetuated by a bunch of crybullies.

So it’s cringe, but not necessarily controversial. But also doesn’t really contribute anything of value.

@ariadne “Any other answer is a first step towards splitting our community along the many lines of political and ideological divides that have nothing to do with software freedoms.” → To believe, or to claim, that accepting code produced by slaves will not split the community, is to deny that many of us view free software as a means of emancipation, rather than as an end in itself.

Have been told I am "even hotter than the average hot chick" today and can't stop smiling.

As a game designer who programs, and works with artists, programmers, musicians, and more: I refuse to devalue the labor of any of my peers or place it in some separate conceptual bin that gives them fewer/different rights and protections. I treat others how I would like to be treated because that's the foundation of a good society and everyone deserves that.

Dont forget the instance operators who actually keep the servers running. Donations keep instances up.
