Backstory: Last year, about this time, I gave my mobile number to an acquaintance. A couple of months later I discovered he has a habit of sending long stream-of-consciousness type texts at odd hour. They're interesting, but... sometimes kind of a lot.

So last week I realized I hadn't heard from him in a bit. I sent a text. No reason except to say hello.

He replied. Spending time with grandkids.

I'm glad I did.
