For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.

How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!

So far I’ve been yelled at by strangers this evening for:

- the existence of provisional ballots, and trying to explain ballot curing

- the fact that US ballots are longer and more complex than they are in other countries (I didn’t design this, I swear!)

- making a silly joke about DC’s national mall not being a shopping center.

Just to state really clearly what is going here.

The New York Times is leading an information warfare operation to mislead the public that Chuck Schumer has the votes, and is the inevitable next Majority Leader.

This is not the case. Schumer has significant and growing opposition both from new and incumbent Senators.

We have see the New York Times use this disinformation tactic many times before.

Do not be misled.

@moira @ascentale @gbargoud with your skills, I wouldn't be surprised if you could diy one

@dailycutrelay It's still early in the process, and things are certainly going on behind the scenes. Keep up the pressure. This cake isn't baked yet.

@carnage4life the economy has been degrading for decades, and arguably, finally, broke during the dot-com bust. This entire century so far has been one of decline.

And this dude is just getting that NOW?

I've always assumed they knew this but didn't care at best, or at worst that this has been the point because the post-capitalist plan was neofeudalism all along.

Can billionaires really be that deluded? To they REALLY believe that "stonks go up" and them getting richer actually floats all boats?

I break this rule and I think it is a good rule actually.

@ajroach42
Ah, that makes sense. We're going the scenic route down the pacific coast, so it's 2 weeks one way.

That's alright, I want to make my way to georgia to visit you some time soon.

So the founder of #eOS just said he's all in for #genAI, got some pushback, and then apparently blocked everyone who provided the pushback without answering any of our concerns. Kind of weird because most of us are probably also part of the eOS userbase..
Anyway I'm wondering if he is currently officially employed by eOS or is just saying stuff from the sidelines? Is this an official #eOS position that they'll be using genAI from now on and disregard what their users want? Is #Murena aware of and happy with this?

#noGenAI

@iris_meredith
Can't you see that @mattblaze is merely trying to ensure that the broken US election system isn't subject to fraud, rigging, etc.? There's nothing he can do about gerrymandering, ballots for everything but dogcatcher (voting for judges? wtf?), myriads of confusing "initiatives", etc. beyond writing to his various elected representatives to look at how the far more advanced democracies around the world do things.
(Obligatory </sarcasm></snark>)

Hubby doesn’t think I notice the slowly growing number of holiday items being placed throughout the house. A candle here, a figurine there.

I notice.

A recurring speech I’ve been giving to my team at work is that technical skill is no longer enough. Being able to write code, create PRDs or design in Figma is simply not enough.

What we most need now from people is good judgement. AI agents can do the technical things but they lack judgment.

Moderators can also see votes on posts in their communities. I assume instance admins can do the same for everything.

lemmy and mastodon are more than just activitypub frontends. mastodon is for microblogging where you follow users while lemmy and other threadiverse software is a discussion forum and news aggregator where you follow communities. it’s cool you can share some posts across these platforms but there is a reason you don’t see the same posts everywhere and that’s a good thing.
