It looks like someone at EA decided to release almost all the old Origin vault onto Steam. Looks like 11 Ultima games got put out too. Even little-known franchises like Crusader.
@srol They are ABSOLUTELY trying to save face/distract people after nuking BioWare from orbit.
If 37-year-old James Talarico serves 9 six-year terms in the Senate, he’ll still be younger than Chuck Grassley is right now (93).

For a while, I was under the impression that all spiciness, or burning sensation in food flavoring, would come from capsaicin, the compound that causes it in chili peppers. Then I realized that Sichuan peppers are a quite different kind of heat. Wasabi (horseradish) is different yet again.
How many hot-flavored compounds are there? At least five!

@aral happy birthday Aral!
Glad to see that with Kitten and Madblog we have reached the same solution (Markdown-generated Web content) coming from two entirely different routes 🙂
@fabio Thanks, Fabio :)
Yeah, does depend on the site/app but especially for content-heavy pages I do far prefer writing in Markdown and falling back to HTML. And having composable components is really nice :)
it's not a rober press (or robur press spelt correctly) it's a ... fuck I can't remember. Kind of a screw press but instead of pressing plates together it just presses a little circle or something small into or out of another thing. Plus probably other stuff, idk. dang
@moira Loving this explanation.
@gb123geo @TarHeelBel I did the work today, so VoiceOver (Apple) and TalkBack (Android) should work fine in the next release.
@stevetex I also would love to connect with you and help you share this to other blind and visually impaired users who I think will enjoy something like this
@ai6yr I saw the words atmospheric river earlier today.
My partner who was my last link to the *non* fedi social media has decided he is also done with Meta and Co.
So, next up on the agenda is setting up my own little Fedi instance on local hardware for friends and family to keep up to date on goings on.
I'm a bit rusty at being a server admin, but it's something to work on this winter!
Any recommendations for small scale fedi instances? I know there are services like Mastohost but the storage is quite limited.
@Javensbukan I like gotosocial

#pdx: Hundreds of #Portland city workers will strike on Monday, with serious effect on services. Contract negotiations with the City remain stalled after 6 months. https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/2026/11/hundreds-of-portland-city-workers-set-to-strike-monday.html
this is one of those times I wish I had a… wuzzut called… rober press? big screw, pushes a thing into (or out of) another thing. that’d be good here right?
@moira Once you think of reaching for a gear puller, I would just cut into it with an angle grinder and then drive a wedge into the gap I cut to spread it open. Using a 3-arm gear puller on a 5-arm crank is not a really simple solution. It can work but once I'm ready to destroy it, the angle grinder is usually easier and more certain.
The uber-classic 70s-era TV series "Columbo" starring Peter Falk is currently free on #YouTube Movies & TV. YouTube frequently brings various content into free status from paid, but reversion to paid can happen at any time and sometimes the free periods are quite short. This is the first seven seasons -- the original run -- which by far contains the most classic episodes. There is always confusion about the pilots and first episodes. The original pilot, "Prescription: Murder" aired in 1968 and features a not fully developed Columbo character -- there are noticeable differences in Falk's portrayal from what we'd learn to love when the series proper got running. The second pilot "Ransom for a Dead Man" is sometimes catalogued as S1E1 or S1E0, but is not included in the current YT episode list. Instead, S1E1 is "Murder by the Book", which was directed by a little known Universal staff director named Steven Spielberg. Oh, just one more thing! #WordPress 7.2 is adding a (customizable) /random/ endpoint that returns a set of random posts. It's enabled by default (which it shouldn't imo) and getting some vigorous debate on the announcement post:

I have found (in interactions with families whose loved ones have gone missing in the wilderness), no one wants to find the body. Nearly all of them hold out hope their loved one miraculously survived... but the usual answer is:

@ai6yr Mrs had a “second mom” go missing in the Marble Mountains years back. Never found.

How to expand a Control object to fill its H/Vbox container in Godot 4
Been struggling with this for too long before discovering this, made this video so you don’t have to.
Tested with Godot 4.8, but this feature has probably been around since 4.0.

[Discussion] How do you (unit-)test your shaders?
Hey all! I’ve been thinking about how to best unit-test my shader code, since TDD has been very helpful for me. But I’ve been able to find surprisingly little information. If possible, I’d love to hear from your experiences!
@Beachbum Disagree. He is a terrible choice for leader. His popularity is 13%. Whenever he speaks people cringe. We need a compelling leader who can galvanize the country in these challenging times. The widely despised Chuck Schumer is not that guy.
@mastodonmigration @Beachbum I’m with you but do you have a ref on the 13% stat?
