Pt 210 data terminal. Never heard of it.
@tomjennings PT 210 sounds like the name of a gunboat or a landing craft...
Speed settings 110 and 300. That's pretty majestic. 😁

@Amgine my original boat back at 1 was cancelled.
They were able to get us on the 1040 pm, but that means we had to kill 9 hours in Vancouver.
We ate and shopped.
A LOT.
LOL!!
Hmm, now I feel even better about minimizing my purchase of new clothing.

Successful night tonight, my chums. Very lovely to have unlocked a new level in life of going out with non-drinking male friends. Difficult to convey the alcohol culture in the UK, but you're basically indoctrinated into going out with your mates and getting annihilated on alcohol and that's essentially your whole social and personal relationships. Unsurprisingly this has a knock on effect to many other areas of your lives. Culturally it's not terribly healthy. So I'm thrilled to have discovered going out on a Saturday night to a shisha joint and just banging a load of sparkling water, tea, a bit of food and having a shisha. Also not terrifically good for you, but a far cry from drinking 8 pints and getting in fights. Had a laugh, talked about our feelings and listened to one another and came away from it validated and positive and crucially will wake up tomorrow (today) feelin' fine. Although I went slightly overboard on the sweet potato fries and hummus. Like a wildman. Men! You too can do this and still be a total double-dog alpha male. Grrr. Had so much hummus mate. You should have seen my BiL. Went mental on the shisha and had 4 cokes. We cannot be stopped. Also - we talked about our hopes and worries in a way that was supportive and nurturing. Oi oiiiiii!
@TheBreadmonkey I love this for you, Ben. 😊 Are you entering a new era?
Here's why garment factory workers in Bangladesh are striking:
Take a woman working a 12-hour shift in a textile factory in Bangladesh. During her shift she sews more than 150-200 t-shirts for Zara, Levis, Walmart and H&M. Her pay for the entire day? Less than $5.
H&M takes those shirts and sells them to European consumers for more than €20 each. That's over €4,000 in retail value. Generated by her hands. In a single day.
H&M runs massive ad campaigns in Europe talking about "conscious" fashion and "sustainability." But there's nothing sustainable about a system that uses their workers up like a cheap commodity.
This is why Bangladeshi workers are shutting down garment factories all over the country. They aren't just asking for a few extra cents. They are striking for the right to be treated like human beings.

How *were* the ferries? I came back early, in part because of the forecast. And yesterday was pretty wild, apparently. Tonight will be the final act, and a doozy.

@mattblaze long ballots? NSW 1999 would like to present the Tablecloth Ballot.
@bassthang yeah, but that’s still only one contest, right?

@JulianOliver Seymour has spent the last fortnight humbly accepting the job whenever anyone mentions it. He absolutely is rubbing his hands together this morning.
@Salty 100%
So far I’ve been yelled at by strangers this evening for:
- the existence of provisional ballots, and trying to explain ballot curing
- the fact that US ballots are longer and more complex than they are in other countries (I didn’t design this, I swear!)
- making a silly joke about DC’s national mall not being a shopping center.
@mattblaze that escalated quickly... Sorry for that, as a German-American. It was really rude.
I think the problem is that the rest of the world only reports on the federal election, nobody can comprehend the point you were making that there are dozens of things to vote for. I just counted my ballot, 30 different votes. Germany has 2 on federal election day, maybe 4 if a state election coincides.
And I have counted paper ballots in Germany, it is error prone!
Anyway, if you hated my comments on provisional ballots, my recent blog post on recounts vs Risk Limited Audits will make you absolutely apoplectic. https://www.mattblaze.org/blog/rla-ms
