@mpjgregoire That's the exception that proves the rule.
I'm sure a lot of Toronto (think the parts with gridded streets) is much less concentrated than the parts where suburban malls are. Have you noticed that, outside the insane lack of prioritization of streetcars over private automobiles, the former parts of Toronto are quite livable? Think of all the 2-or-3-over-1 rental/retail that lines so much of every major street. So many mom and pop shops compared with any suburban mall.
@virtuous_sloth Maybe downtown Toronto is the wrong place to test your claim that ownership of commercial real estate has become more concentrated over the last hundred years. Not sure what the right comparison would be...
Mixed commercial/residential buildings are obviously a good idea, and so it's hard to believe governments ever passed laws to forbid it. Euclidean zoning was a terrible idea.

@Joannanewsomsuperfan Mood, définitivement. 😞

New: Trump's Justice Department searched a member of Congress's home and has charged dozens of green-card holders over alleged false statements on government forms.
You know who else appears to have filed government forms with incorrect info?
Stephen Miller.

Photos from the free Clay Play tent at today’s Fall Market at the local public skatepark. I love to see children’s hands molding clay. They were so sweet! I asked them where they think clay comes from and one child said, “A factory.” I loved having the chance to explain to them that the clay they are working with came from a place nearby, that clay comes from the earth underneath their feet, and that the best things in life are free.

no seriously what's even the point. im likely the most anti-nuclear person i know and why would you phase out the reactors you've already paid for, built, and that are long past the point of maintenance being expensive
@glyph As penance, immediately open a text editor and create the following two files in your Twisted working copy:
- contents.txt: Toplevel directories and important subdirs and a human readable description of each. For example https://github.com/mcclure/emily/blob/93b42a12fd8fed4c54089d55eaa889d8b7896d86/contents.txt#L9 or https://github.com/mcclure/lovr-ent/blob/d5a1e552e64d661c0656a628552c765be4ef0506/lua/contents.txt#L74
- run.txt: What commands do you actually have to type into Bash to create a local deployment, to create a package for distribution, or to run the tests? In python the first may be trivial, but I doubt the third obvious
@mcc The README includes some of these things, but others of them are torturously complex to write down, particularly because "a deployment" is such a flexible concept in this context that it dissolves into meaninglessness
@phaysis I know he's been around for ages, but I never got too familiar with him until recently. He's still quite prolific and has put out some great remixes over the past few years, but I don't listen to his albums that often. I probably just need to find the right one.
@docpop Same. I like the idea of what he does and what he stands for, but of the few albums I've picked up, I've gotten into the groove with only a few tracks. Saw him at SXSW in a tiny venue above a sushi shop; he set up a table on the floor IN FRONT OF the DJ booth, tilted his controls toward the audience so we could see what he was doing, and we got to sweat it out 3 feet away from him. Great show. Was hoping his recordings had the same energy.

@fasnix Once problems arise, I will. But after 20+ years with no problems, I don't think it is a problem for now.

@jayalane @dnkboston @mcnado US White culture demands a lot of conformism on key issues. If you veer off, you are ostracized from the community.
This is why you see interviews with White farmers who will accurately point out how tariff are hurting their markets and the war with Iran raising diesel prices, but then say how they still support Donald Trump. They must protect themselves from their community.
This is something that the White rural community must face and deal with. Conformism is destroying their communities. The country as well
As planned Casuarina Linux package updates continued until the end of October, but now the time has come to migrate my primary system to Chimera Linux. I've done that today, and built my preferred COSMIC desktop. I have `/home` on a ZFS pool so once the base system and packages are installed most settings carry over automatically.
