Aaron Swartz was a digital rights champion who believed in the need for an open internet.
His life was cut short in 2013,
after federal prosecutors charged him under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) for systematically downloading academic journal articles from the online database JSTOR.

Facing the prospect of a long and unjust sentence, Aaron died by suicide at the age of 26.
Join us to celebrate the legacy of Aaron Swartzon Nov. 8, 2026.

With the organizers of Aaron Swartz Day, we’re honoring his life with an in-person and remote hackathon.
This event is supported by several organizations that carry on his work, including the Internet Archive
—which is hosting the in-person event
—the Freedom of the Press Foundation, Creative Commons and the Free Law Project.

@davidrevoy Can't help…, what's the middle when you have 6 of them. Is it the one in the middle of the 5 ones that are together? Do you raise finger 3&4 together? Endless wondering…

I have the Dirtywave M8 tracker and have silly amounts of fun with it. Something about the vertical timeline and freedom from linear thinking really brings me a lot of joy. I recently picked up the iOS app as well so now I always have a fun way to make music close by :)

OMFG get Schumer out of leadership.

Do it yesterday.

We shouldn’t be forced to use toxic platforms that track and profile us in order to get public information.

Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube track and profile their users so that they can target advertising towards them.

Their business models fuel online harms by pushing more and more extreme content to users. Despite this, these platforms are one of the primary ways that government departments share public information.

Tell your MP to support the EDM calling on the UK Government to ensure that all public sector social media content is published on open, decentralised and federated platforms!

Even if no ballots were cast for them on Election Day, Democrats Jon Ossoff in Georgia, James Talarico in Texas and Roy Cooper in North Carolina would have won their Senate races.

The early votes alone cast for all three Democrats totaled more than the votes their Republican opponents had received after polls closed Tuesday, according to state elections data.

@me_valentijn FEMA flood map for that town is... informative.

@terratempora How can you guarantee any of the data displayed is accurate and not hallucinated?

Very appropriately worn by Kid's friend, who is the gang's dungeon master.

@steter @me_valentijn @Dougfir @cvvhrn That opening scene makes me think the ability of men in the 1970's to pick up women was not strong. 🤔 "If I am a creep and leer at a woman, maybe she will go out with me" 🤔

It’s time we ALL started telling the TRUTH about how much FAILING to address homelessness is costing us ALL!

If they’re saying we can’t afford to build supportive housing for the unhoused, they’re lying.

It costs us MORE to NOT build it!

We literally can’t afford to NOT build housing! #UrbanTruth
