Good software development is mostly engineering: Requirements- and metric driven with some aesthetics sprinkled in.
Writing code - which is something different - is way more about the artisanship and self-expression.
Code is closer to art that software usually is.
@tante finding out which metrics to measure and what requirements are essential is a form of art.
Writing code is way more about just realizing the requirements.

A couple of minutes ago, I renamed a trait, and all uses of it, across a handful of files, using a simple sequence of: SPC c r Alt Backspace Roleplay RET. It updated the trait name, and all uses of it across all files where it was used.
No tokens were burned, and the entire operation took less than a second after pressing RET, because Emacs & LSP are so much better than LLMs for this purpose in every concievable way, except rent seeking.

@Testoceratops random question, have you ever been tested for any sort of colitis, enteritis, or Celiac's?? those are like the main thing I can think fit those set of symptoms and might impact how you absorb iron and folate

LLMs have put some pressure on software development and that has lead to sort of a victory lap amongst designy/product people: Finally they no longer need devs to fight with.
Just shows the typical "AI" bias: Everyone else's skills are irrelevant, just mine matter. But of course design and product shit is gonna be next. With similarly bad results.
"AI" means everything is fast fashion now: Disposable, crappy, shit for the environment.
@tante with the problem, that people only notice how bad it is in their own field of expertise and interest.
But surely its results are better in other fields …
One more example: “don’t let the "AI" write your PR description” ← written by someone with a focus on product changes (which is where maintenance of programs often drifts after a while), because the intended change description matters, but not …
“you must be able to explain the change yourself” ← because explaining matters, but not …
