The only thing I like about Deadlock is the wolfgirl.
I hate, hate, HATE that "the election was rigged" has become the go-to explanation (across the US political spectrum) for any election that doesn't go your way.
Remember: despite real progress, there are still vulnerabilities in parts of our election infrastructure. But there is NO EVIDENCE that any US election outcome has ever been successfully altered by technical means.
It's not IMPOSSIBLE, but it's not something that we've actually seen happen (so far). Perspective, please.
@mattblaze It is frustrating that when people say "the election was rigged" they usually mean it in the context of actual fabrication, which is without evidence, and without some extraordinary measures to do so covertly, utterly implausible.
Meanwhile "the election was rigged" is very real in the systemic, political sense (gerrymandering, voter suppression, etc), with plenty of documentary evidence and far too commonly a reality. It is a shame people fall back on the former.

"Panic is a threat surface."
One day the smoke will clear long enough for the Resilience Engineering people to discover the fascinating world of risk perception. It's tough to effectively fight fires unless you can differentiate fire from non-fire and tell which fires are most important when it seems like everything is on fire.
@arclight having seen a fire truck literally drive through a fire because it wasn't the relevant fire... yes.

Fediverse
Is there a way to not see duplicate of the same topic across different communities?
Hi everyone!
I’m really enjoying the Fediverse through Lemmy and Peertube.
One creator I enjoy and follow on the Fediverse is Gardiner Bryant as his content is really enjoyable.
Sadly he ´s the target of my post as he shares his content on many different communities that I follow.
Today I had 5 times the same topic on RetroDeck (great project too) on my feed on Lemmy (Voyager).
It is the same on PieFed (Interstellar).
This is really annoying and I haven’t found a way to not show these duplicates. Do you know about one or is it worked on?
Also when crossposting, it would be great if everything appeared under on post. Is it feasible?
Sorry if it’s easy and I just missed it. In a way I hope it is because it would mean that the Fediverse is festure rich😇
Abstenció: el vot més útil per Catalunya

@spla discrepo. Votar segons què obviament és contraproduent. Per sort aquest cop tindré una opció que no faci fàstic de votar. I si alhora no hagués passat el tall, a falta d'altra cosa, vot en blanc.
On the eve of the U.S. midterms, here's a 2024 story from Prison Journalism Project written by four incarcerated writers who've never been able to vote. "I have begun to think of everything I do in the community as a referendum. If I pick up a bit of trash, I am voting for a clean community. If I leave it there, well, that’s a vote too. If I refrain from violence, even in thought, I am voting for a more loving world. Even though the state has the power to stop me from drying off, it can never keep me from getting into the water of democracy. It’s where we live and I’m gonna splash around as much as I can," says Troy Chapman.
Chemistry lab required "closed-toe shoes". Stupid student wore dainty little shoes that covered her toes but not the tops of her feet, then argued with me over rules. Shrugged and let her have her way. Felt absolute glee two weeks later when she spilled strong alkali on her feet.

One of those minefields which comes down to a guess to distract me from the news.

One thing I've taken away from some of these things is that a lot of communities say "well we can't ban genAI contributions, because you never really know", and maybe you won't for some, though you might for a lot, but for sure some will slip through
But also what we are seeing is that vibecoders / slop artists will absolutely take their ball and leave in a huff if you say it isn't welcome here
Sometimes they'll even start a completely separate thing for them
And great! Go do it.
But yeah, placing rules of such things do work. And it does help preserve communities.
GEFS on OpenBSD continues to improve
A little while ago, we talked about 9front's Good Enough File System being ported to OpenBSD. A lot of progress has been made on this front lately. Aside from fixing bugs and porting over fixes from the 9front side, there's also been a ton more substantial changes.
Some userspace tools have been done (you can now mkfs on openbsd!), but snapshot control hasn't

Act stupid.
@bobmagicii PHP followed Rust and C# with the style and name of its “attributes.” I’m not sure why they didn’t call them “annotations.”
@ramsey im more chill with the attribute syntax than i am with the namespace escape i mean backslash. the namespace delimiter of \ i will take that grudge beyond the grave as an angsty spirit haunting those who remain.
Well that answers that question ;-)
@raymierussell I suppose you also remind surgeons to wash their hands before performing medical procedures, too.
First test of multiple days of rain, spar varnish is better but we have failures on the edge of the table. This is not going to survive the El Nino season without me finding more spar varnish. #furniture #sparvarnish #rain
