DeckyHub is a fantastic Decky plugin that lets us easily get and update plugins not on the official store, without needing to go to #SteamDeck Desktop Mode:
@ml Oh yeah, I know the "no alt text" was not directly related to the politics here.
@ai6yr I see it as related because if people at NWS were disobeying well-established laws on accessibility (sad enough that laws are even needed to care about accessible dispersal of emergency communication), then you already have people at that office who do not give a shit about "liberal stuff" like saving disabled people through accessible communications.
So they're able to resist orders when it comes to accessibility but "unable" to resist orders when it comes to only posting on Ecchs instead of other places people might be.

In case you missed it: CVE-2026-98432 is a critical (CVSS 9.8) bug in the Linux kernel's TCP code. It's been there since 2016, so virtually every Linux server on the planet has it, and it can be hit remotely. Anthropic says it built a working exploit that gets root on a server. A total takeover.
Debian patched it on October 16. Ubuntu still doesn't have a patch more than two weeks later. Every supported release, LTS included, is listed as "Vulnerable".
@nixCraft hello chatblabla can you patch my mind thx 🐖🐧💻 what a wild week my ops teams becomes officially the patching emergency team 🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁

What did I say? You connect appliances to the internet, this is what you get. You should not be able to hack yoghurt.
Shop freezers in six European countries hit by suspected cyber-attack
You know one can have computerized control of refrigeration units and freezers in a store without being connected to the Internet.
The cinema by me keeps moving their earliest showings later and later and now they’re at 3pm! I might have to move
@lynnandtonic wow, how long does it take you to get there? :))
@to thanks, might try that. my inbox is > 1 GB so should be ok.

Why is your fridge networked
@Gargron Give me the so-called dumb appliance. I don't want or need my fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, coffee maker, washer or dryer connected to any network. Even my smart TVs are not connected to any network.

One thing I thought of and explained as contrast to all the vibey stuff going on is the demoscene. Pushing the limits of old computers as art. There's no reason to do it except craft and joy.
But of course, this weekend I saw an article where someone tried to do just that. Even on HN people were saying, why? You're missing the point of the demoscene. There's nothing to "gain" from the demoscene other than community and craft.
If you're using an LLM to try to understand and explain to you how a technique works, I suppose that's one thing. But if you're using it to build a demo, why? Exploring the limits is only there for community joy. There's no other reason to do it.
But every community, the joy and artistry is torn out of it. Intellectual strip mining.
@cwebber ("you" in the post is the "general you" not you personally of course!)
You see that person who did an amazing demo. Everyone was celebrating that person. You want some of that. You WANT to be celebrated. Nay. You DESERVE to be celebrated. Yes, you're absolutely right, people should worship YOU.
So the question becomes: do you put in the work or do you mimic the form. And putting in the work is work. And mimicking the form is easy. So you fake it with an LLM.
"Skirts". No, #BrokenTimes, he disobeys lawful orders, thereby undermining the rule of law in this wounded democracy. Say it.
@jeffjarvis What's "trust" when #DivideAndConquer has such a long and successful history?
Linux Mint is bringing back a feature most Linux distributions quietly gave up on years ago: hibernation.
@itsfoss I used to use Hibernation so much on windows, but since I switched to Linux I never got it to work. I really hope this will work. Sometimes I want to keep my apps open, but sleep drains too much battery.
