I'm in the wrong bubble, but boosting might help. 🙏
My wife is new to #weaving. After #spinning the on her #spinningwheel and coloring it herself, she spent much time #warping the #loom. And now it doesn't work as expected. 😩
The problem is, that the space between upper and lower warp thread (marked red in one of the photos) seems to be too small. The heddle pushes the lower thread up. See description in Alt-Text.
We bought the loom second hand, and nobody here is an expert. Can anybody help?
@Unabart There are rideshare services that are badly exploitative of their gig-economy drivers, although it's not really clear if that's overall significantly better or worse than it is in traditional taxi services. And it's environmentally worse to use private cars vs. mass transit, but the practicality of mass transit options available to people for particular rides obviously varies quite a bit.
@mattblaze Yeah, I’ve read that Uber is a questionable business in the way they treat their drivers. I get it. At the same time, I can’t always use mass transit and for people to get judgemental about that is simply their problem and not mine. They can go huff and puff and not be my friend. Probably wouldn’t have known they existed otherwise. If I had to avoid every thing everyone else doesn’t like, I wouldn’t get anything done. ✌🏻
Studying more of the dependencies for Papyrix's pivotal "Reader" view...
There's some support code which, for the most part, lightly wraps the renderers for Papyrix's general UI widgets to make them more specific to viewing pages of an ebook.
It has some logic for rendering a cover page by clearing the screen, getting dimensions, checks for cover data & its dimensions, if present computes scale-to-fit & renders the image, computes layout for title, ...
1/2?
... if there's a title renders soft-wrapped with hyphens & centered, if there's an author renders it centered, & flushes the display.
As for a jump-to-page view it renders a title & a page numbered, renders localized text stating max page number, renders a button bar, & flushes display. This doesn't seem complete, is it a wireframe?
There's also a wrapper here around the button bar, & another wrapper for rendering a hardcoded menu.
2/2 Fin for today!
I cant understand Japanese...
@mattblaze As a fellow non-motorist I resort to the rare taxi. I dislike the exploitive concept of ride-share; so far I haven't needed it. But if I do someday, I'll use it, as should you.
@oclsc One of the problems is that in many areas, the rideshare services have reduced the number of taxis, so rideshare can be the only viable option if you need a ride.
"I didn't realize middle schools even had a CS curriculum"
Strictly speaking they often don't it varies wildly from school to school. But, there are slowly emerging consensus ideas about the wide range of ideas a good curriculum ought to cover.
The worst ones teach students to be software operators, they are little better than job training.
The ideal curriculum teaches students to be critics and creators of software. Just as they are with literature, or historical texts.
We definitely did some BASIC in 7th grade but it was as an extracurricular.
If you think your day is bad: my wife accidentally stepped in shit inside of a Walmart today.
@edavies It looks like a Debian problem:

@daringfireball "It's gettin' so a businessman can't expect no return from a fixed fight. Now, if you can't trust a fix, what can you trust? For a good return, you gotta go bettin' on chance—and then you're back with anarchy, right back in the jungle."
Poor Marissa
There has never been a better time to introduce young French people to the wonderful world of decentralized social networks and - optional - #selfhosting.

Virginia is going to be such an amazing addition to VOCES8!
This is one of the most rewarding pieces I've ever performed and gosh - it was so fun to sing at Choral Canada's Podium in Victoria in May at that amazing cathedral that I saw VOCES8 at just a year prior!
Caroline Shaw wrote some amazing music here. I can listen to it over and over again.

New records obtained by EFF expose more problems with Medicare’s AI-driven prior authorization program and show why we need stronger legal limits around government use of automated decision-making. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/10/new-records-obtained-eff-expose-more-problems-medicares-ai-experiment
We live in a country with public healthcare, paid paternal leave, great work-life balance, auroras, endless forests, waterfalls and...on top of all of that, weekly waffles.
Thoughts and prayers appreciated. 😭 🇳🇴
Virtue and a Sledgehammer is a short narrative experience that poses deep questions about the limits of humanity, and it's a joy to play on the #SteamDeck.
A copy was provided by Devolver Digital for review.
I don't drive. I do, in fact, sometimes use rideshare services. I am quite possibly a terrible person, but I doubt you have enough information to independently conclude that.

Nothing should be accepted as fixed, permanent, or ‘given’, neither material conditions nor social forms. The process of construction is negentropic, iterative, continually refreshing.
Refreshing to see on a room-service menu.
@pluralistic in the parts of Germany and Austria I went, leitungswasser was a secret menu item you had to know you could order
In Salzburg in particular they thought I was crazy half the time despite them having some of the best tasting water I’ve ever had
