In 2016 I bought some Mitutoyo vernier calipers. They came with an SR44 button cell. I have just replaced that battery for the first time. Granted I haven't used them a huge amount in those 10 years, but the manual says the battery life is 18,000 hours continuous use!

I reckon more battery powered devices should prioritise long battery life over other things.

Another example is my Pebble watch. It goes weeks between charges, compared to my previous Apple Watch, which was lucky to go two days.

@DisruptionNetworkLab I can't go into detail, but this year we got an org literally up against a superpower off big tech & self-hosted in a jurisdiction where they are very, very difficult to reach via cross-border warrant, at least without going via the high court of their host state. @cwebber @josch Debian is repeating the nazi bar process that Bevy went through. It doesn't matter if the official statement explicitly puts some limitation on LLM usage or promotion; as long as any usage is allowed, all restrictions get ignored by boosters and that gets tolerated. https://blog.fallible.net/it-breaks-a-village/

@becha This reply by @bignose is exactly what I was thinking as well. It exposes that this is the struggle between "we need to be productive, produce output, generate content" and "lets share a common hobby and grow together"
