“There is a small percentage of people, the four of us on this pod and all of our friends, who are the asset owners of America. And we have benefited in every weather condition.
…
And then there's everybody else who are wage earners, and the structural capacity of the American economy to support and grow wage earners is broken” - Chamath Palihapitiya

He missed the mea culpa for the four of them on the pod and their friends celebrating the idea of Anthropic and OpenAI destroying the livelihoods of America’s wage earners so they could get even richer.
From my local 350 group:
"There's a bill in the U.S. Senate scheduled for a vote on Monday —
the so-called Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.
Don't let the name fool you.
This bill is stuffed with blatant environmental attacks. It would:
• Gut the Clean Water Act, making it harder to protect water and stop polluting projects.
• Weaken the Endangered Species Act, limiting its ability to protect imperiled species like North Atlantic right whales and monarch butterflies.
• Lock in decades of fossil fuel dependence instead of supporting clean energy.
• Fuel energy-hungry data centers by accelerating federal approval of new gas pipelines and infrastructure.
• Hand mining companies unprecedented rights to occupy and degrade public lands, while removing the people's right to oppose these projects."
Jim Morrison shocked the mountaineering world last year when he became the first person to climb and ski down the north face of Mount Everest. His feat is covered in the breathtaking documentary film “Everest: The Other Side,” helmed by co-directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. Culture writer Coleman Spilde likens Morrison’s obsessive pursuit to an extreme act of religious faith. “Such a wanton, helpless display of pride makes for a character study as gripping as it is frustrating,” Spilde writes in his thought-provoking critique for @Salon:
You can probably drive up there in a Hilux.
Do we have any Mastodon friends in or near Spokane who could recommend a store that would deliver a new mattress and take away the old one? I need to buy one as a housewarming gift.
@Alice husky boys probably have the same complaint.
@nguarracino I was honestly thinking about this when I bought it because I didn't try it on, but I was like surely they added some fabric to the chest area for those husky boys?
How a small, wealthy AI-safety network that organized in Signal chats grew into a coalition that beat the $100M super PAC Leading the Future in the midterms (Politico)

Proof that beside being quantic, cats also have magnetic poles.

@NorcalGma2 Costco is always a good bet!
Friday night, I was in Montreal to accept the 2026 Freedom of Expression Award from the Canadian Media Lawyers Association, in recognition of a lifetime of work fighting for freedom of speech, open courts and civil liberties as both a journalist and a Senator. It was a truly moving honour to receive - one I share with every colleague who supported me, every editor and publisher who had my back, my Senate colleagues and staff, and all the lawyers who advised, protected and inspired me. #yeg #yul #cdnpoli
So, what's the problem with "websearched"?
(he says, reaching for his box of tissues while pulling a sheet out of the photocopier...)
If we do need to be company-specific, it seems to me the proper conjugation would be:
I duck-duck-go
I duck-duck-went
I have duck-duck-gone
but I am not a member of The English Academy.
@wrog @ColinTheMathmo Nothing wrong with “websearched” at all! Sometimes I like to have fun with my wacky inconsistent language.

Still reeling over the idea that somebody read "The Great Gatsby" and thought "you know what Jay and Nick remind me of? Cops"
@jalefkowit WTF?!?
@lumiworx
I’m having trouble accepting that your original point was about GrapheneOS not being installed out of the box. I couldn’t get that on reading your original post, nor your response to @tpaau17db. It would certainly be very nice to have GrapheneOS installed OOTB, but don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. And to the extent that we have any ability to influence the outcome, IMO we would be better off boosting the solitary privacy focused option that exists, rather than dinging it over claims that were never made.
(@GrapheneOS FYI)
@TheGreasyPaw @lumiworx @tpaau17db The post is an announcement for the Signature 27. It's about the overall smartphone product. Official support for GrapheneOS is one of the major features so it's covered but it isn't what the post is about. It says details will be provided later.
Neither our posts or the announcement from Motorola said the only option would be people installing it themselves.
So for the New York Times information warfare tactics we've got:
1) Front page carpet bombing
2) Scant coverage
3) Bothsidesing
4) Selective tone policing
Anything else?
@mastodonmigration @Npars01 @CassandraVert
Privileging the lie.
GOP bullshit gets the headline while any correction or rebuttal or truth is buried in the article.

I read that this is the 2nd lowest turnout in NZ history. Voter suppression was part of that, but it does support my theory that with everything going wrong right now in international politics... Voters, particularly young voters, are demotivated.
On that line... Chris Hipkins must go! He's now lost Labour 2 elections! Get someone exciting.
@alcinnz You'd think his blithering incompetence as minister would have already put paid to his career 🤷
I've been spending time on Bluesky over the last few weeks, not posting, just reading. Not because I really want to, but because if you are interested in US election news the fedi is not a great place to get it. (Sigh.)
I am looking forward to tapering that off, though, because I do not need shit like this in my life
@jalefkowit *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighhh*
“I don’t know anything about US elections, but let me explain why you’re doing them wrong” is not as helpful as you seem to think it is.
@mattblaze
OK, but proportional representation *would not kill you*. Admittedly, both New Zealand and Poland have had very weird electoral situations of late (these are both the countries where I am allowed to vote), but they still seem fucked up in a better way than the US is fucked up
@gerg @LabSpokane so, you don’t actually understand how US elections work, but you’re glad to let us know all the things you assume we’re doing wrong? I will be sure to give your comments all due consideration.
