Apparently a crow in my neighborhood likes to remove my bike seat cover to pick on the seat.
I don't know why, but it's nice to know why the cover was partly removed regularly in the last few weeks!
Teri Pruitt found her way in theater and is now helping businesses do the same in business.
Sometimes you just have to say yes to jobs, but clarity is key.
Dunno how this even happens. #socks
@ai6yr my first suspicion would be high ankled boots. I’ve worn out some thinner socks that way with some surplus army boots. I am a bit surprised though, darn as a brand is touted as fairly indestructible, at least as far as the hiking subreddit goes. Great warranty though.
@cR0w @ai6yr Both have an entry in the ledger:
@suzannealdrich @cR0w Yeah, unfortunate. I really liked Smartwool, but the last few pairs I had were terrible, terrible. (the older pairs lasted YEARS before issues, the latest Smartwools didn't last 6 months either).

I don’t worry about that. I have no expectation that up/downvotes be not tied to my username.
Yep definitely in a crash. Man I miss being able to just do things without having to plan every aspect of how I’m going to get through it.
I also wish Safeway’s grocery delivery were more reliable (and it’d be nice if they used more suitable containers than a giant pile of plastic grocery bags, like this is something Amazon Fresh figured out *decades* ago)
On the plus side the Jewish Family Services person did find someone who might be able to help me and I should be hearing from them next week
Loved this piece at the Museum of Anthropology the other day
@chadkoh Those are so cool!
On the way back from the shops earlier a man with a dog said hello Ben and it took me ages to recognise him as a neighbour and then went OH SORRY I DIDN'T RECOGNISE YOU as with a sharp movement I went to say hello to the dog and so the dog barked at me and I said ok then bye and carried on walking. It was a 7 or 8 on the weird interaction scale.
@TheBreadmonkey @Nickiquote I had to interact with people today, many of them loud extroverts in a loud place, and it’s just the worst.
Think about all that now seems possible in the next six years.
True solar and green energy conversion. Ending political and financial corruption. Medicare For All. Abolishing ICE. Regulating surveillance tech, AI and crypto. Getting big money out of politics. 3 more liberal Supreme Court Justices.
NONE of this is going to happen if Chuck Schumer becomes Majority Leader. None of it.
Either we fight this battle now or resign ourselves to another generation of frustration and disappointment.
Alright! I am clearly in a vile mood.
Please send me your favourite clips, memes, visualizations, and stories of joyfully dissipating anger.

depends. insurance coverage for certain ailments is lacking and they tend to not care if something kills you, as long as it costs them less. profit motives need to take a back seat to basic humanity. the tallest buildings in most cities are owned by greedy insurance companies.
@m3t00 I absolutely don't disagree regarding profits, but statistically for acute conditions the United States does have better outcomes on average essentially across the board.
The United States falling behind on average life expectancy or deaths from treatable causes per 100,000 being higher indicates a lack of widespread access to healthcare.
However, the better outcomes for healthcare received indicates that quality of the actual care tends to be the same, or better, or faster; and the very high consumer spending power indicates to me that people are not really hurting for money here.
@ai6yr I've been using darn tough socks for all over a decade. Never had issue with returns when they get a hole. Highly recommended.
@pmonks @patmikemid LOL I nearly killed myself as a kid in a MTB race, ambulance ride, cracked the helmet in half, broke my collar bone, plentiful road rash. Decided that was not the activity for me. Plus, my son is a paramedic and works on the rescue copter, and most weekends are spent dealing with MTB riders who have really messed themselves up. More than a few likely paralyzed for life due to back injuries. So... I know my limits. (I am also tall and top heavy. 6ft+ so... it helps to be short and compact, IMHO, lol)
@ai6yr @patmikemid But you could be supporting your son’s employment! Stop being selfish and get out there and pretend you’re 16 again!!
The only data center I support is the library!
I am so very, very happy that one person in particular got to see Texas turn blue.
It’s interesting, I feel like the voice in my head intuitively feels like it is *coming from* inside my head, like between my ears.
But is that just a societal thing because I know what the brain is? I was just randomly thinking about ancient societies with a cardiocentric point of view like Ancient China and Egypt, and how they might’ve experienced it. I suppose it probably has to be, but never thought about it before.
@jonah I discovered recently that a friend does not have an inner monologue or hear her thoughts as a voice at all but rather catches thoughts from an amorphous stream of consciousness. I honestly can't wrap my head around it and she doesn't really have any vocabulary to describe it
