Government must move away from toxic social media platforms | Open Rights Group [Video]
We shouldn’t be forced to use toxic platforms that track and profile us in order to get public information.
Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube track and profile their users so that they can target advertising towards them.
Their business models fuel online harms by pushing more and more extreme content to users. Despite this, these platforms are one of the primary ways that government departments share public information.
Tell your MP to support the EDM calling on the UK Government to ensure that all public sector social media content is published on open, decentralised and federated platforms!

@alcinnz I don't like exceptions because I feel they obscure clear error handling, but I'm curious about your vision for this.
The important thing is to ensure that folks are lead to handle errors instead of ignoring them.
I do like the non-deterministic/deterministic approach here!

@liberty Yeah, I would want any Alonzo guidance to discourage using this exceptions system. It'd be better to use Maybe or Either types.
I'm intending for such exceptions to be primarily thrown by the runtime, when its deterministic abstractions become leaky.
I am baffled by our heat pump, and why it is heating even though it is not a time that it should be heating, and that it is already hotter than the temperature to which it should be heating.
Tomorrow, I need to read some manuals, and work out what is going on.
@neil That does sound surprising.

"On 6-7 November 2026 we are taking action across Europe to say Stop Dirty Data Centres.
Local communities are rising up to stop dirty data centres where they live. We will unite and exercise our democratic rights to speak out, assemble, and protest to hold elected officials to account.
We’re calling for an immediate moratorium on large data centres in Europe!"
@knowprose "I deleted my X account because it's owned by an enemy of humanity who doesn't deserve my help to get even richer, so you can probably figure out why I also deleted my Facebook account."
@SteveFoerster oh, those numbers are even better.
93.4% of humanity is not on Twitter/x.

Damn… We should really start fighting for a world where people making the option of not using digital technologies are respected, as written in the Off-Punk Manifesto…

When covid started I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t on Twitter or reddit or Facebook. I was in college, doing that and had a baby. We watched cartoons and when they slept I’d read and write. I had no idea until no one was on the road or at Walmart with me. I had no idea how to even get information about what was happening, so I went to the county website and found nothing. my professors stopped livestreaming and sent helpful information about it the same week so I got it.
Turned out the city had a Facebook page that people were getting their information from. And there was also a Twitter.
Then my kid gets to be school aged. The fucking school used Facebook and twitter to communicate with parents. I missed so many programs, and lacked information about everything that happened there.
Fucking hate it.
@startrekgifs Well that was not the response I expected.
I had just arrived at United. This was Storm Front II, then.
(I guess if you don't reply directly to the OP, you won't trigger an actual guess.)
Coming up at DNA Lounge!
