I guess they expect money will now be spent on stock buybacks and dividends instead.

So far, I like what’s been built here. There are a few things I’d change, but they’re not dealbreakers. My main concern is the voting system and how it works. Otherwise, Lemmy seems like a solid option. I’m not sure how much voting can be disabled or changed on an instance.

I’m considering either hosting a Lemmy instance for nightash.net, where I currently run a traditional forum, or building something closer to the architecture I described here .

I’d appreciate feedback, especially from people who might be interested in using it.

@mcc I haven’t had much luck with the installer in qemu/kvm. Packages download at ~20kb/s, and one the initial mandatory package selection is installed, the installer crashes, leaving the VM image in an unbootable state. Maybe you’ll have more luck. (I tried the 0.9.0 release from 2024, and the daily image from October 14th.)

THE STRAY LAMB

One of the oldest books in this collection, and one of a small collection of non-science fiction novels.

This is by Thorne Smith, perhaps most famous for writing Topper. Smith wrote funny fantasy stories, which were occasionally risque or ribald, even very infrequently venturing into mildly lewd. This one is pretty tame.

Mild-mannered commuter Mr. Lamb starts turning into various animals (horse, seagull, etc.) after meeting a strange little man, which thoroughly disrupts his dull suburban life and marriage.

Published: Original hardcover 1929 (Cosmopolitan). This Pocket Books edition is 1948 (518).

Since my latest database backup is unfortunately not very recent, and because there is still hope that the severs will come back up, I am waiting and hoping that I regain access to the data.

This won’t help with password changes and new accounts and the like, but because Fediverse hosts federate data, I wonder if it is possible, with the help of a trusted other instance or two, to reconstruct much data from federated data that has moved to other hosts, to viably recover from there.

If technically possible to make a tool that could viably recover from federated data, it might help not just in this instance, but in the event of future instance losses, which I’m sure will happen.
