Discussion
@strypey @lightweight It's complicated, but not in the way you might think.
This discussion would be best in the pub. Or do you think there would be many takers if I were to give, say, a 20-minute chat and then moderate a discussion about this on a non-scary, non-surveillance-capitalism videoconference service?
@billbennett I could certainly provide the latter. Locally. @strypey
@pixelfed I would like the ability to click on a post from a creator ablanda scroll through their timeline post against of having to press every post individually.
Also if we can post multiple pictures at one time to our stories.

I’ll thread the industries’ biggest wins and losses tonight below 🧵
Alright, now *do something*
I hate Jeffries.
Everytime I hear him speak I want to punch him.
@billbennett
> one reason Big Tech is news is because that is what readers click on
Fair point. But that doesn't require tech reporters to cover the DataFarmers uncritically, or sing the praises of 'products' and 'services' that are often profoundly anti-human. Also, information about more ethical replacements can be folded into articles about what needs replacing, 'truth sandwich' style. With relevant quotes from 'Big Tech' critics (and not just the celebrity ones).

For the last 21 months, the lower federal courts have been fighting a rearguard action against the lawlessness of the Trump administration—with no support from Congress and very little from #SCOTUS.
One of tonight’s less visible consequences will be that we’ll have a Congress that has their backs.

CNN now projects Democrats will win the US Senate. With votes still being counted, it's at 51-39.
But the number to watch is 52. Democratic Senator John Fetterman has often sided with Republicans, and if he defects on a 51-seat majority, it's 50-50, with the Vice President then breaking the tie.
Every extra seat matters.

Talarico, Hinojosa take Texas for Democrats
omg i have not watched Hakeem Jeffries before. Has he always been so POINTY!?
gawd. so much pointing. so much hands.
It is such an American politicians thing, i think. 😆
he even used double finger-gun pointers!
@chris Pointy, and also fricking ineffective… but, still better than the alternative.
@Yo the legislative branch can’t pass laws?
Something incredible to see is that so many of the winners tonight are black and brown people, are women, are progressive or democratic socialists. The mandate has been sent. Let’s hope democrats follow through and deliver real change for the working class
@robin Codify Roe v. Wade. Restructure & reform SCOTUS. Propose new amendments to the constitution, including ending the Electoral College.
Great seeing the #voteBlue numbers tonight, but if I’m reading the propositions right, a couple of #antiTrans bills passed in #Arizona. With #Democrats winning handily in many races here, clearly there are a lot of transphobic democrats around here.
When it comes to vertical tabs in browsers, is the use case that it is full screen so you have the horizontal room for them?
@chartier I don’t use full screen Safari, but my machines are all large (13” iPad Pro, 16” MacBook Pro, Studio Display), and I like vertical tabs sometimes. It’s nice to see the titles of tabs and I frequently have far too many open in one window. So it’s a self-made problem, but if you have 8 browser windows with 50-100 tabs each…
Answer: YES! Whew.
@ai6yr My friend who sews for a living (everything: Suits of every fabric, wedding dresses, kids costumes, tents…upholstery… etc) she saves every scrap… EVERY scrap in bags. When she makes stuffed toys or pillows for kids that have allergies, she stuffs them with that scrap collection. I know you don’t like to waste anything. Just a thought.
@hbons it's still early, but looking ok so far
@dohbuheee it’s pretty much over no? depends where you look.
