CNN now projects Democrats will win the US Senate. With votes still being counted, it's at 51-39.
But the number to watch is 52. Democratic Senator John Fetterman has often sided with Republicans, and if he defects on a 51-seat majority, it's 50-50, with the Vice President then breaking the tie.
Every extra seat matters.
@randahl 52+ would be ideal, but there will be 1 independent for sure, and Idaho has a good shot at punting their GOP incumbent with a second independent as well, so GOP is already looking at a best case scenario of 48 senators.
Neither independent will formally caucus with democrats but they are likely more reliable than Fetterman. Anyways I still think a likely outcome is 52 dem, 46 GOP, 2 Ind.
