Whenever I get a call from dad I always let it go to voicemail. He's 88 and quite frail, I know he won't be around for very much longer. I just want to be able to always hear his voice. I always call him straight back.
Dunno, but when we were doing those California wildfire days of orange skies and purple noontime sun, my cartridges would rapidly flow less and less air as they loaded up with particles.
Definitely before that point.

My personal take: it depends on what you are protecting against. For hot peppers, you'll get a heads up that it's time to change, ditto for many solvents. You'll know when it's starting to break through.
That's not a good strategy for serious nasty stuff, however.

In case you missed it, there is a *REALLY* easy way to see all the posts in a discussion thread:
1. Go to the discussion thread
2. Wait 5 - 10 seconds
3. If there are missing posts, "More replies found" will appear, click on it
4. After you click, it will automatically load all of the thread's posts no matter which server they were posted from
This means everyone on Mastodon can see identical discussion threads without having to look at other servers.

so either i am a coloratura contralto, a rare but known vocal type, or the world's first and only megadeep coloratura mezzo

The problem wasn’t LLMs at the core. It was building something that tricked primitive parts of human brains into anthropomorphism so effectively. Everyone attributes way more capability to AI than it really has because by its nature it can sound human through mimicry. It’s a great data science tool.
@hacks4pancakes Anthropomorphism is definitely a bad start; but they also have a rather atypical profile in terms of integration difficulty.
A really half-assed overlay of a chatbot or RAG thing on top of something that had a UI with some text in it is trivial even by the standards of boring report SQL; but reliability appears to be impossible in practice, potentially in principle.
Way different from the more typical "just plain broken" -> "v.5 has some bugs and edge cases" -> "we fixed it".
Whenever I propose something in a meeting and I’m either dismissed or "ignored" by the higher ups only to have them "propose" the same idea shortly after, it takes all of my self control to not screenshot the timestamped text from when I proposed the same idea shortly along with a congratulatory message like "Good idea, Todd!"
