My neighbours always know if cops are anywhere near our home/on our street because I start yelling at them from my front door. A few months ago, early Summer - I yelled at a bunch of Saanich PD at a neighbour's place down the road. They had all their emergency lights on & a bunch of crime scene tape up for what I knew was another cardiac arrest emergency medical call. I screamed that they pulled same crap on our family in 2023 & my Dad died that night. I kept yelling at them to turn off their lights & stop escalating a medical emergency & that they don't belong there & to leave so paramedics can help the person. They stared at me & I kept yelling. People started looking out windows & coming outside to see what I was yelling about. 3 neighbours joined me in yelling at the shitty cops. We kept yelling at them & I started walking towards all their cruisers, saying - Get the hell off our road, social murderers! You're not paramedics who save lives. You're cops who violated our home & it was your union president leading that! Go away. You make everything worse! I hope you all get hit by cars!
This is also why I smirk instead of feeling insulted when anyone calls me a loudmouth bitch. It's not an insult, to me.

Today, my friends from Mexico stopped by to pick up the marigolds that I had for them. Marigolds are the traditional flower for decorating the home altar (ofrenda) for remembering the deceased.
A nice surprise was that they dropped off some homemade “pan de muerto” (bread of the dead). It’s a sweet bread decorated with crossed “bones” made of pieces of dough.

For a time I did think things were improving, but it seems like the backlash is upon us.

Also, this isn't scientific but I still remember the very few kids who declared they wanted to grow up to be cops - after we had cops in our elementary schools, pushing copaganda crap. The best thing was that almost all the other kids weren't into growing up to be a cop. Many kids, including myself, chose a lot of helping jobs like being a doctor/nurse/paramedic/fireman/social worker! I ran into some of those kids who wanted to be cops as an adult. Only 2 actually became cops. One was a former school bully. The other was a formerly bullied racist. They were power hungry & getting a badge & guns is dangerous to the community. Both were misogynistic in school years. I knew them & they came to some parties way back in the day.
The number of times i was told to "go back where you came from" as a kid was not a small number of times. It's straight out racism, just for the record. (yes, yes, this is subtooting you-know-who).
(the answer was always "I was born here!", but the answer was not accepted, and I got into more than a few fights over it... Mostly scuffles, only once did it involve blood and broken glasses...)
Not that anyone here I have run into needs to be told that kind of crap isn't acceptable, but... venting.
