Sorry about that
@Username_Here_ASAP What'd you think?
@ajroach42 I found it really difficult to get through, but that might be the fact that I waited until the end of a month of much more modern movies in general with something a little bit outside of my usual consumer scope.
I found most of the characters personalities to be essentially identical, and very boxed in by the era that they were written. Pretty much none of the feminine characters had anything outstanding or interesting about them that I would call memorable besides the catatonia of barbara.
The masculine characters spent as much time chest thumping and shouting at each other as they did failing to make a decision. The zombies themselves, being cast pretty much entirely from what I can tell to be totally normal people, we're highlight and I found it really curious that they weren't truly zombies but more like violence and stupidity emerged into one? Like they're smart enough to use tools, smart enough to pay attention to their environment for the most part, and guided by violent impulse and designer to consume flesh, but ultimately they don't seem mindless. Typical examples in the genre are animated dead, whereas these seem more like reduced sentience ravagers.
The audio I commented on elsewhere and that pretty much sums up my feelings about that.
I think the high point for me was actually the newscasts, the rapidity at which a "normal" was found in how to address the animate dead was all too familiar to an adult living in 2026 LOL. It just became a curiosity that you would have to go from house to house to house and blow the brains out of anyone vaguely zombie without really thinking about a different solution. I also liked that the newscasts and radio broadcasts and everything felt authentic for the time. Like this looks to have been taking place in which I'm thinking is 50s 60s, not as far back as the 30s or 40s but like part of the civil Rights era.
I'm a little uncertain about linking to this talk, because it is... far and away the most emotional talk of my life. I spent a lot of time crying on stage, and that was no act. But here is my talk from DWeb Camp: "Spritely: Painting a New Vision for the Internet" https://dwebcamp.org/videos/spritely-painting-a-new-vision-for-the-internet/
The talk is about @spritely and why I think our work matters, but also multiple levels of existential crisis, including the potentially absurd choice to have the executive director of your org animate a short film, which I am hard at work doing, trying to justify our existence
And who gives a shit, when anyone can just press a button and get generated output
Who really cares?
Who cares about any of this.
But I do care.
It also contains major spoilers for the very animation I'm working on right now, but in much more raw and largely storyboarded form. And it's... a raw, and emotional talk, that also had much of the room likewise in tears. So I dunno, maybe watch it or not; consider that your CW.
The project looks amazing, though I don't understand what underlies it, things like the carousel as a platform itself is way outside anything I know about.
But yes your art is worth it. It's your work, and it has value as that alone, and contributes to other peoples' vision of what is possible.
Samuel R Delany said when asked about his own writing, no artist is in a position to judge their own work. You can't really assess how others see it and can't know what the world does with it. It will happen with and without you.
The purple patches on our six year old Panasonic FirefoxOS smart TV are getting larger, and we need to actively look for a replacement. In addition to broadcast television we play DLNA content from the NAS, and use the Sky Sport Now, TVNZ and Three apps.
I'm very concerned about privacy and security; Richard is concerned that the replacement is as easy to use as the current TV.
Initial research tells me all the current crop of smart TVs are compromised by tracking' advertising and, in many cases, artificial intelligence. I know I can build a PiHole device and limit the telemetry, although if we chose a Google TV I'd also need a separate WAN subnet for this as Richard has stock Android devices and will still want them to phone home.
Personally I'd be happy never to connect the new TV to the internet and use a separate box for streaming, but I can't see that working for Richard, who wants a single remote control and no faffing around.
If anyone has insights or suggestions I'd love to read them.
The only device I might sell Richard on is Apple TV. The apartment we leased in Barcelona two years ago had it, and he thought it was brilliant. We have four Homerun tuners already antenna-connected, and I could dedicate and connect one to an app on the Apple TV box.
Apple TV users: I'd welcome your input and have a question. I assume the Apple TV box is connected to the television via HDMI; can you set this up so that when the TV is turned on the Apple TV interface is automatically displayed?
@leighelse there are very nice ways to use a settop box (e.g. rasppi with kodi or similar) with the same remote - it's actually compatible. But you *also have the option of having a wireless keyboard* which is very handy in some situations to avoid that painful remote control keyboard.
This will actually work. People need to register as democrats (gross, I know) and vote for progressives in the primaries. Make the democrats the party you want.
The other way will also work.
What’s the solution?

Shocking
Yeah, this is at best wish casting and at worst deliberately disingenuous propaganda. Obama was a liberal or not, because he opened the US to the largest expansion of for-profit fossil fuel extraction in history, and championed fracking, and even presided over the militarized police beatings of indigenous protestors of oil pipelines.
Liberals don’t believe any of this

How come my podcast app isn't torrents
How come my podcasts are full of adverts that the person who makes the podcast doesn't even make any money from, they're often just to pay for the server where the MP3 files live, I download 20-odd pods at a time and then they just sit there on my phone which is always on and always connected to the internet and charged and doing nothing overnight
My phone could send those podcasts. Podcasts man could put the podcasts on his computer and send it to like ten people and it'd cost him nothing and then they'd seed them like torrents and the downloads would be faster and podcast man wouldn't have to do the ocarina pause for an advert to sell me shit and make him no money. How come my podcast app isn't torrents
@ifixcoinops I have complained about this in the last month.
@pikhq i already have natural e2 levels around 80 pg/ml
@ariadne then it's probably appropriate. i wouldn't question it either way, unless your levels weren't ending up in an appropriate place. like i said, they _are_ pretty normal. just low
Si on t'avait dit à la fin de l'été que la Préf de Police allait donner un avis sur les déguisements d'Halloween, tu l'aurais cru ?

Just realized there's a character in The Animatrix named "cis"
@mcc I had this realization this week too
@ajroach42 I have! I haven't seen anything after the second one, and remember liking both
@Username_Here_ASAP So here's an interesting thing about 28 days later, right?
It was shot 100% on consumer grade 480p MiniDV cameras, and then it was upscaled/blown up for cinema release.
Weird, right?

@erincandescent Hmmm in 12 years of living here I have still never had German marzipan because I assumed I would dislike it like marzipan in the UK … maybe time to give it a go
@dpk@swhack.com It's (according to supermarkets) Christmas, Marzipan Kartoffeln are everywhere
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
