@aleks Wasn't the current GNU Emacs originally written by Gosling? I thought RMS took over development of it later?
According to a Gosling interview that I saw on YouTube sometime back, RMS basically took Gosling's code, changed the copyright message, and called it GNU Emacs. The two-guys-in-a-garage who'd commercialized it successfully sued SUN and IBM for including GNU Emacs but didn't go after Stallman 'cuz "you can't sue a homeless man".
So Emacs was written by James Gosling and Stallman just took over maintenance.

It's almost exactly three years since I set up my #Faircamp site, originally using v0.8.0!
It's now on v1.7 - I was hoping to announce an upgrade to v2.0 but turns out some URLs have changed in the new version so it'll take me a while to sort that out (embeds and direct track links have changed, as has the RSS feed).
It's also just about three years since the Faircamp Web Ring was set up just a day or two later - here's the original two posts:

This is one thing where I really failed to make things as wholesome as I normally try to make them (even if it's mostly the consequence of well-intended past design decisions and this release simply having turned out a bit too overwhelming to smooth out the transition for this as well :D).

@joojmachine @benjamineskola sure. but hiding actually takes effort and knowledge. so I’m already more confident the code is thought through however it’s written.
it’s still a breach of trust though, specially in PRs to projects with a policy. and this will come to light eventually.

The other cool thing that came out of that job of my father’s is somewhere we have a bar of soap in the shape of a Twinkie he was given as a gag gift. And a while later (early 1990’s?) when Twinkies had an ad campaign about how they made them we as a family were amused because my dad knew very precisely how the machines worked to make Twinkies at scale
(Designing such industrial food processes was what my dad did and literally wrote textbooks about)

I don't understand how it's 2026, I have an M1 Max with 64 GB of RAM and an SSD, and somehow Apple Music stutters while playing music. BeOS could do this in the 90s from a floppy disk. (Well, maybe not from a floppy.. but still.)
