I am a doctor. I wish that I could prescribe dildos to people. We could in the Victorian era. The amount of people these days getting random household objects stuck in their arses is getting ridiculous. Please, you're an adult, just get a proper and safe dildo, for fuck's sake.
Salutations individuelles et collectives ! 👋
@zl2tod Yes, thanks! Took longer than usual to go up on the site...
No, NFT buyers, you've not been mocked enough.
Yes, this will make everything better in the world.

The TAG has published the @w3c Group Note: User Agents
https://www.w3.org/TR/user-agents/
It describes what makes software a user agent, e.g., browsers, search engines, voice-driven assistants, and generative AI systems acting on a person's behalf, and the duties owed to the user: protection, honesty, and loyalty.
Edited by @jyasskin and @csarven . Thanks to everyone who contributed!
Feedback welcome: https://github.com/w3ctag/user-agents/
Serious question: If you willingly use generative "AI", do you believe you're immune to or sufficiently protected from de-skilling, cognitive decline, and what's commonly known as "AI psychosis"?
If yes: What makes you believe that? How are you special?
If no: Why do you still use it, given that you're aware of the risks to your cognition? Do you just accept it?
@aesthr I use it because I'm forced at work. And I use it to write application emails (because that's one of the skills I never had. Writing pointless stuff about myself or why I want to work somewhere).
I already notice that I get worse at writing emails. It feels like knowledge is floating out of my brain.
I hate that my boss forces me to use it but I can't stand the pressure.
I would be a lot happier if it would be gone tomorrow
2001: I have a new phone. How exciting! Perhaps I can access the Internet on it via a Sharp Zaurus. This is so the future!
2002: Ooh! A new PalmOS device! Amazing! HotSync backup and off we go!
2004: Wow! This WindowsMobile device has a keyboard, as is basically a mini laptop. Cool!
...
2026: I must get a new black slab because security updates have run out on my current black slab which, for all other intents and purposes, is absolutely fine. The new black slab does nothing new for me, and all I see is the chore of setting it up.
@neil COUNTERPOINT: when I bought my new black slab last year, I was able to get it in a very pretty colour and have added an even prettier case

Okay so the hilarious thing is, one year ago I wanted to use Linux as a desktop operating system, so I was really angry Wayland was not designed to enable writing GUI applications for Linux. Wayland seems to have been designed as a kind of super-EGL, a surface negotiation protocol for embedded touchscreen devices. Now one year later I want to get Linux off my computer at any cost and I'm going hmmm so you're saying your surface negotiation protocol has NO Linux baggage…?

@glynmoody So, what are the bets that this is more bullshit AI slop because they can’t distinguish between slop and real research?

We live in a time of transition. The web is redefining itself—again. Many people in our industry are wondering what comes next—not just for websites, but for themselves.
In his talk about what he has dubbed The Futique Web, Sascha (@SaschaFromMars) takes a step back to look at where we came from, where we stand today, and whether the website is still the destination it once was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGc03MLZxfA
