@epsi i dumped a log :(
@sylvia_ritter do you know a better (european) alternative to etsy?
@littlerao Now that you are mentioning it, there could be a lot more EU marketplace alternatives. I found this list, but most of these shops are restricted to specific EU regions: https://www.herm.io/shopping-tips/the-best-etsy-alternatives-in-europe-17-marketplaces-for-handmade-vintage-and-unique-finds/#final-thoughts.

in shambles right now, I was so sure that oracle cloud was solarpunk
I am not entirely sure what "Draming of cats" may be, thus I suppose "might be SOLARPUNK" is an acceptable answer.
I am relieved that IRC is SOLARPUNK.
Recently, after being appalled at how many dependencies irssi and weechat have accrued over the years, I started exploring a new IRC client: catgirl
I haven't figured out if it support connecting to multiple IRC networks simultaneously (though with tmux or screen, y'know, multiple instances can be invoked). I did make a horrible blunder with muscle memory of /mode * +o (someusername)
Which ended up parsing the (someusername) as channel modes.
It turns out: catgirl has an /op (ussername) command.
TIL.

Serious question: If you willingly use generative "AI", do you believe you're immune to or sufficiently protected from de-skilling, cognitive decline, and what's commonly known as "AI psychosis"?
If yes: What makes you believe that? How are you special?
If no: Why do you still use it, given that you're aware of the risks to your cognition? Do you just accept it?
@aesthr no, on the contrary, I learn new things. It is a tool. I think people said the same when other technologies were invented (eg. internet, smartphone).

Going to be revising episode credits soon.
Should I add a "No AI" statement in the end-credits..? Right now, I just have the usual legal disclaimer about it being fiction.
I have mixed feelings about this.
It is a fact that there is no LLM or SD contribution to this animated film. Even had I wanted to use them, most of the animation was completed before 2022, so I didn't really have access to them. Since then, I've pretty much decided I just don't like them much.
I think my biggest concern is that using AI would introduce subtle biases into my work, and also remove the authorial fingerprint of myself and other contributors. The "voice" if you will.
Arguably, I have used "AI" to transcribe audio for behind-the-scenes video subtitles, although this is a quite different type of AI (apparently Vosk uses a neural-net system. If I switch to Whisper, that's a transformer architecture, apparently -- I do not actually understand the difference myself, FWIW).
I also have an interest in using machine-learning to aid in asset-management (e.g. it would be cool to have a DAMS where I could throw in my images, and then ask "show me all the shots with Hiromi Lerner in them" or "find fast paced music in the soundtrack archive"). I don't have this, but it seems like it could be useful, and remove a lot of laborious effort tagging files by hand.
I kind of hope it goes without saying that this was made by people and not humans.
And yet, there is no question that there is a great deal of automation here. I mean, that's how computer animation works. It just wouldn't be possible without it.
So I'm not at all sure I want to make any sort of promise (explicit or implicit) to never use AI tools. It seems like that could be a rash promise.
@aesthr I was a CTO 25 years ago, Been an architect since. I have trained dozens of young programmers. Handing work off has caused me no issues that I am aware of. I don't write bash scripts, have no interest in learning, and Deepseek is pretty good at it.
I am quite sure that using LLMs in every part of my life would do me real damage. So I don't.

@fatsam so, what's the gym equivalent for your brain?
