@kaifi they redesigned the posts to look a lot like Instagram and also limited what kinds of attachments you can combine. For example, you can't post music on its own any more, it *must* be together with an image. The text is now below the attachments. Everything requires extra clicks now for no reason. New profiles hide the friend list behind multiple clicks. Everything is slow because it's been rewritten in React and makes what feels like a million API requests to render a single page.
@kaifi and they also completely killed third-party client apps, including Kate Mobile

Are they using a 3rd party app like Voyager? It makes a big difference.
Dystopia warning. Looks to me like inadequate wages mean it's really hard to turn down the extra money for helping your employer render you destitute.
@Joobidube jesus crispy christ...

@grishka i wasn't able to get my vk account back ever since 2022, or even enter the service. What's happened since then?

some feedback about Lemmy/PieFed from Reddit users
I’ve tried both [Lemmy and PieFed], and the UX is incredibly unintuitive and unpleasant. The main problem is that it’s quite hard to discover content you want while avoiding content you don’t, Bluesky at least has really good custom feeds that are easy to add (the default feed sucks). Another big issue is the general site layout, it’s hard to figure out how to do things as simple as saving a post for later or how to go back to the feed without being redirected back to the post I’m trying to exit.
Maybe they didn’t see the “Feeds” feature in PieFed? The top navigation menus in PieFed are a bit messy. Although shareable blocklists could be cool too, or maybe toxic?
That’s excluding the horrible lack of contrast most frontends use, which makes reading and parsing the site elements unnecessarily difficult (no Lemmy, grey text on a grey background is not good for readability).
I like the Lemmy colors, but maybe it should be easier to change, because they might like the darkly-pureblack theme.
Fediverse feels slower, but not in a good way. More of a ‘if I don’t use this for a week, I’ll see new things’. If I log in after 2 or 3 days, I’ll scroll for 10 minutes and see the stuff I saw last time.
Maybe this is a UX issue of not finding the right feed they would like.
I also want nsfw stuff now and then. I hate how censored the internet has become, at least with reddit if I want to see a bit of porn, I can.
Again maybe a UX issue of not presenting what communities they could subscribe to.
I tried twice to join those forums within the Fediverse and I can’t get past the captcha test. The fact that you need approval to validate your access doesn’t seem designed to encourage you to recommend it.
The captchas on Lemmy are AWFUL, I can’t do them either.

(that’s the “Medium” difficulty)
Lemmy v1.0 is adding the ability to do invites, so maybe there will be an invite-only instance that gets some momentum, that could be cool. Invite sites seems like a cool old-internet type of culture.
The fediverse stuff is way too complicated for me, Reddit is very easily accessible and actually has active communities for the topics I’m interested in.
Of course these are naturally going to be all negative because they’re users that bounced off the Threadiverse, but there’s probably hints to what can be improved

He actually said that, but the quote is from presidential elections against Harris

@jacksonchen666 is that a symlink to claude?
@galaxis_rssbot Haha, the bot was broken ever since I moved everything to the new machine months ago due to ... workarounds. Fixed it now after I also broke the previous python setup with a dist-upgrade.
Well, also I mostly don't post on the blog anymore...
I'll add this toot to my gallery of 'posts that periodically get repeated on social media" along with the old faithful:
You can't spell Fediverse without diverse.
Of course, me pointing out these toots is also in the gallery of 'posts that periodically get repeated'.

As a #journalist, #author, and #firstresponder, it has always been my wish to create a virtual online café that serves as a #newsroom and is available to all visitors free of charge - It would be a cozy space, furnished with historical artifacts, where specialty coffees and teas are served, and where users can access audiobooks and texts - If any of you would like to help me bring this to life, please get in touch - I'd like to launch a competition for the #artwork in early 2027 _ #villebooks
Audi chief executive campaigning with Trump in Georgia and being used as a useful fool to support Trump’s tariffs has destroyed Audi brand for me and is reminiscent of its instrumentalisation during Volkswagen group’s darkest days.

@samsethi English stick ball sucks even worse. Games can take 3 days, constant unexplained "tea breaks" and no opportunity to learn how the game actually works because they are too long and boring to televise. Also somehow oddly related to bowling.
@adam 100% agree. I may be the only Indian in the world who hates cricket 😄 Hate golf too.
Any sport that takes more than 2 hours bores me. Same with rounders or as you call it baseball.
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
