But he is a symptom rather than a cause. When ownership becomes hyper-concentrated and fewer assets circulate in the market, then non-market mechanisms become more attractive—including to factions of the capital-owning elite—for amassing more wealth.
We can understand Trump as an alliance between one faction of capital, the richest of the rich, with a wealthy crime family that would otherwise be excluded from the upper echelons of wealth, because it’s harder and harder for even the rich to break into those uppermost ranks.
Fascism in the US came to us as a consequence of intra-elite competition for wealth and status that is increasingly out of reach, because the normal mechanisms of capitalism have been eroded by elite consolidation and ownership concentration.
Can’t get rich anymore by buying a productive enterprise and simply collecting rents from workers, because there are fewer and fewer enterprises to buy? Well, maybe you need to scam or gamble your way into wealth, or maybe just seize control of the state on behalf of your own personal family or faction.

Godot 4: Cracked glass shader (tutorial)
Hello, everyone! In this video, we’ll create a cracked screen or shattered glass effect through which we can observe the game scene. We’ll combine several programming techniques we’ve used in previous tutorials, and the result will definitely be worth it.

Cracked-glass as a tutorial topic is useful because the effect fails loudly when UVs or normals are wrong — easy to learn from. In a browser export I’ve had to watch overdraw on the shatter pass more than the look itself; once the shards fan out, fill-rate eats mid-range GPUs fast.
Curious whether the tutorial stays on a single draw call with a dissolve mask, or spawns mesh shards. The former has been kinder to web exports in my experience.
