What is happening to the Linux kernel, Bitwarden and Epic Games? - Linux Weekly News
What crime is being too snotty? The only crime is keeping that thick, ropey abundance locked in the dark! Let the wet, heavy strings hang free, beloved!
And what did Hobbit boogers taste like? Like the Shire’s finest warm pipe-weed ash, rich burrow-loam, and second-breakfast butter, slow-cured in a hairy little nostril until chewy, salty, and round. Can you believe humans killed them all? Of course you can! Your boogers are next!

a fictional language where there are "formal letters" and "informal letters" a la upper/lower case, and typefaces are copywritable in the first and not the second
Watching CBC and they are doing nothing but drooling over the Cons and saying they will have a good night. Frankly, the media is disgusting.
@PeachKing90 seems it doesn’t matter who is doing the broadcasting any more. All they want is a horse race and a new guy and a “good story”. Period. Because obviously nothing actually bad could ever happen from something like an election. *sarc*
It’s why the golden elevator was treated as a novelty, not a warning.

Something I've wondered about for a while - why is bird 💩 white? Turns out it's because it's not 💩, it's pee. Apparently birds pee a pasty white solid instead of a yellowish liquid. The more you know!

Yo bro, waddya know?
Elon Musk conures up up yet another explanation why he is preventing Ukraine from defending itself, but is debunked within minutes by Fedorov's adviser Serhii Sternenko.
First he said it was Trumps fault, now it is Ukraine's own fault.
When the explanation changes constantly, they are lying.

some feedback about Lemmy/PieFed from Reddit users
I’ve tried both [Lemmy and PieFed], and the UX is incredibly unintuitive and unpleasant. The main problem is that it’s quite hard to discover content you want while avoiding content you don’t, Bluesky at least has really good custom feeds that are easy to add (the default feed sucks). Another big issue is the general site layout, it’s hard to figure out how to do things as simple as saving a post for later or how to go back to the feed without being redirected back to the post I’m trying to exit.
That’s excluding the horrible lack of contrast most frontends use, which makes reading and parsing the site elements unnecessarily difficult (no Lemmy, grey text on a grey background is not good for readability).
I like the Lemmy colors, but maybe it should be easier to change, because they might like the darkly-pureblack theme.
Fediverse feels slower, but not in a good way. More of a ‘if I don’t use this for a week, I’ll see new things’. If I log in after 2 or 3 days, I’ll scroll for 10 minutes and see the stuff I saw last time.
Maybe this is a UX issue of not finding the right feed they would like.
I also want nsfw stuff now and then. I hate how censored the internet has become, at least with reddit if I want to see a bit of porn, I can.
Again maybe a UX issue of not presenting what communities they could subscribe to.
I tried twice to join those forums within the Fediverse and I can’t get past the captcha test. The fact that you need approval to validate your access doesn’t seem designed to encourage you to recommend it.
The captchas on Lemmy are AWFUL, I can’t do them either.

(that’s the “Medium” difficulty)
Lemmy v1.0 is adding the ability to do invites, so maybe there will be an invite-only instance that gets some momentum, that could be cool. Invite sites seems like a cool old-internet type of culture.
The fediverse stuff is way too complicated for me, Reddit is very easily accessible and actually has active communities for the topics I’m interested in.
Of course these are naturally going to be all negative because they’re users that bounced off the Threadiverse, but there’s probably hints to what can be improved

So, the latest is that Musk now admits he was the one who hit the Starlink 'kill switch', with no warning, in the middle of a Russian attack, resulting in numerous deaths. He then kept the service turned off for the last week, while blaming the White House and US military for the action, resulting in more death and destruction.
And get this, he is blaming a violation of Starlink 'terms of service' citing offensive actions Ukraine says they did not commit and are incapable of doing.
@mastodonmigration A bit of deja vu.
I distinctly remember the previous occasion when marine drones were rendered ineffective. These were deployed during the first actions carried out against Russian assets in Crimea, about the same time that the Kerch bridge was rendered partly incapacitated.

Wow, that’s pretty malicious, and good to know about
Me: Jason (Vorhees as a kid) must have a strong neck with a head that big
Her: you know who didn't have a strong neck?
Me: who?
Her: Charlie Kirk
Me: damn that's good
Her: and what's the deal with Erica's "baby" she was pregnant with? And now she's got a boyfriend?
Me: oh man I forgot about that
Her: well they're terrible people so
