@dysfun In terms of the formalism, yes, that's correct. In terms of the user mental model, the commonality is you write a string of characters which is OK by itself and then if its immediate context isn't what you thought then you get a bad result. The "bad result" in Perl (silent misbehavior) is worse than the "bad result" in Idris (cryptic type error), but the "bad result" in Rust or OCaml (good type error) is categorically better than those other two. Idris and Perl both present a brick wall
@mcc @dysfun Fun fact: this partially has to do with Idris' type theory as well. OCaml and rust are for the most part what is called "simple types with let-bound polymorphism", and a feature of that type theory is that you can always infer a type from its term. Idris has dependent types, which includes in a sense "true" polymorphism. This "true" polymorphism turns type inference into an undecidable problem for the general case, making type error messages in turn a lot more difficult.

the four stages...
In the early days of the web, the first website I created was a Scooby Doo fan site. It was so much fun! I had polls, guestbooks, forums, even a chat room! A whole community.
Every year I would host contests, like a Scooby Snack recipe or a costume contest - back then, people would physically mail me their photos to include. lol.
Anyway, I'm feeling spooky this weekend and thought I'd share the Scooby Snack recipe winner from those days. Like, good times.
@box464 Like, still groovy!
Official Scooby Snack Recipe
From the Kitchen of Shaggy
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup Quaker dry oatmeal
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 pound (1 stick) butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 tsp walnut extract
- (Optional) 1 oz. of finely ground “herbal medicine”
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. If there isn’t enough liquid to mix everything after five minutes of stirring, add a tiny amount of milk to help.
Taste the batter before cooking and adjust the amount of sugar to your liking.
Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake 8 to 12 minutes, depending on how large you made your cookies. Go shorter for chewier cookies, longer for drier, crisp ones.
Rainfall in the last 5 days looks to be getting up there vs rainfall we've had in the city over the last 8 months (without a downpour in early June, probably would be ahead this week).
This is partly due to the exceptional lack of rain nationally this year but also this city has been unusually unfortunate to miss what rain has fallen this summer. Very wet Jan and Feb then basically nothing (other than that blip at the start of June) until this week.
@mcc @typeswitch i prefer <$> personally in this context. i think it reads slightly clearer. i'd ideally want some parens in the map version to make it clear.
@dysfun @typeswitch The exact comment I put on the line was "I also have an implementation where I do this with a `do` in list context and a map, but this is funnier"

I'll stick with Kwallet. I've used it since 2000, and used it across different desktops, not just KDE. Personally I use a separate password, and prefer not to open it with my Session Password.

Perhaps I'm being silly, but [less] with scroll bars would be an ice thing to have. Not even clickable, necessarily, but just a visual indication of the size and position of the viewport vs the size of the document.
@rl_dane May I suggest vimpager? No scrollbar, but it does show a position indicator (% read) in the bottom right corner.
