We are social animals. When the herd exhibits general acceptance it triggers something in our brains to do the same. It is why billionaires are funding data centers to flood social media with the opinions and leans they want the public to have.
I can’t remember the researcher name, but among the many studies on this topic there have been a swath done in public waiting rooms with confederates (the name given to actors working for researchers). This is a reproduced experiment.
Waiting room. Smoke starts to trickle out of the ventilation system. How long til someone leaves? Turns out, it’s more likely for the room to clear faster if the confederate gets up sooner and leaves. Then the standard cascade effect happens as the herd takes the hint and everyone leaves. In some cases, it gets to the point where the room becomes hazy and people don’t leave til the confederate initiates.
None of life is a single variable scenario, but it’s worth digging into the variables known to influence us as people.
Learned helplessness is another item I believe is more relevant today than at the time of the now illegal, though famous, experiments performed on dogs.

Right, the republican primaries represent them much better, and they thank you for your attempts to keep them in power, chode.
Afraid of having to earn your incremental change in republican primaries when we are a one party state? 1 party is only 1 less then 2.
Is having a artificially limited number of political parties a problem all of the sudden?
We can do it again

You have failed to solve the trolley problem.
That’s the meme.
Great headline + picture combination.
The smiling face of “You’re on your own, there’s no such thing as society”. Margaret Thatcher alive and well and living in Wes Streeting
@urlyman You should stockpile water because the water companies have all be privatised and they haven't been maintaining the service to increase shareholder profits.
Throwback to the time when @KevBot and I learned of this lovely man in a knitting magazine and decided to go out as him for Halloween because we love ridiculously obscure costumes that nobody else will get.

Things that make you go "hmm.." 🤔
Gotta feel bad for those who chose ignorance above all else.
I don’t feel bad for them. I hate them.
My political views in a nutshell
@ewjoachim @glyph you can do that right now and I wrote down some recommendations a while ago:
@jomo @glyph correct me if I’m wrong but CAA tell CAs not to issue a certificate to you if you told them not to, they’re not used by UAs to reject certificates issued by the wrong CA, no ? There’s CT but it’s only after the fact, and you don’t need CT to find a rogue certificate (it helps automated detection at scale)
If I’m an attacker and I found a CA whose private key is 4, CAA won’t keep me from impersonating the domain, will it ?

That’s why I have this account. I only have to break it out once or twice a year, honestly. For the most part out server is pretty stable, but then every now and then, a rare Azorian moss creeps in though the window hosting the server, and begins to colonize. This results in much delicate work, as @ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net and @poVoq@slrpnk.net carefully scrape the moss off the motherboards, using hori-hori knives imported directly from Japan. They then coax the moss onto several 9x13 Pyrex dishes loaded with a home made agar and begin the trek up Mount Pico, to relocate the moss to its natural habitat. This is only done under light or a full moon and with much chanting. If done right, a Satyr emerges from the bushes (erect phallus and all), playing melodic flute music, and thanks them for restoring the nomadic moss back to the wild. After a few moments of awkward silence for both the admins walk back down the slope, wondering what actually just fucking happen, and how this became part of the routine maintenance of the server.
