I would like to live in a country with a sensible progressive government again please
@aurynn I'm feeling quite dejected too

@glynmoody Vegan transsexual climate activists, must be them, absolutely!
This tweet keeps popping up in my feed but I'm not mad, I can't agree more. Please keep desktop UIs designed for mice and keyboards, and phone and tablet UIs designed for touch. There's no need to merge these two disparate interaction paradigms. Literally no one asked for this. There's no benefit to the user in this.
This Week in Plasma: Widgets Widgets Widgets

Welcome to a new issue of This Week in Plasma! This week many widgets shipped with Plasma got quite a bit of polish. Feature work and performance work were also notable this week… really, a bit of everything! Have a look: Notable new features Plasma 6.9…

Typical example of the sort of myopia that is usually part of using the generic "BSD" moniker:
https://docs.ansible.com/projects/ansible/latest/os_guide/intro_bsd.html says "how to use this on BSD"; it has examples for both BSDs -- #FreeBSD and #OpenBSD and does not mention #NetBSD a single time!
I keep seeing this. Why?
@bentsukun I remember adding support and fixing stuff for FreeBSD on ansible. There’s great support on IRC from ansible core team members, but eventually somebody in the community needs to do the work.
OK ... so ...
I used to belong to organisation X. For that membership I create a bespoke, and I think fairly unguessable email address.
I have now received an email:
From: Google <noreply@google.com>
To: (unguessable)
Subject: Verify your email address
What are the plausible scenarios? Here's one:
* Organisation X has lost control of my email address;
* The email address has been obtained by bad actors;
* Bad actors assume it's a general email address and try to log in to Google with it.
Can you think of others?
@ColinTheMathmo If it's not truly unguessable (i.e. somewhere on the order of 50 bits of entropy), it's certainly possible that a bad actor guesses randomly generated account names.
2m tall husband ™️: reaches the places other spouses can't!
@christianp In Australia, for a time at least, builders and decorators would wear strap-on stilts to reach ceilings, etc, rather than using scaffolding or ladders.
Students who learned how to use a protractor and ruler during lockdown are now taking high school level geometry and I don't think that went so well. Their algebra is fine. But I needed to bring all of the tools out and teach them how to use them again.
I could see how a remote lesson on a protractor measuring angles could go very wrong. Possibly some of them didn't have the tools at hand and just. used online versions that snap into place for you... which just doesn't cut it.
This was exciting for me since you don't realize just how complex the concept of "measuring an angle" really is until you need to really break it down.
I think I've caught most of them up now but hooo boooy if I never see someone write that an angle is 3cm or that a segment is 35 degrees ever again I will be very happy about that.

They’re not private at all, I’ve never been under the illusion that they were.
I like it, have some guts, stand on business. If people want to downvote they should be willing to attach their name to it, internet points are fake anyway.
Very probably the more your submission appeared to be written by generative AI, the more likely it would be to be accepted. If some person came in with an ungainly, unreadable patch and was aggressively pushing a project to accept it you'd get suspicious and wonder why but if an AI did that you'd be oh well AIs are just like that and AI written code is just like that
I'm currently being a "mad scientist" 🤪 and experimenting with a multi-tenant #ActivityPub domain-independent server implementation. One account can use multiple AP C2S (Social API) client apps similar to PixelFed, PeerTube, and Mastodon (with others possible). Server tenants are lightweight, good for single-users with a custom domain, and should be portable to other servers (similar, in spirit, to ATProto or SoLiD pods). Proof-of-concept only at this point. I'll blog any interesting findings.
I wonder if at this exact moment one could succeed in filing a issue against an open source project for an entirely ficticious vulnerability, get it assigned a CVE and a github score, and then get the upstream project to accept your patch for the vulnerability, with all these things presented as the issue, the CVE, and the PR being written by generative AI, but in fact you wrote them substantially by hand and the patch for your nonexistent vuln is actually a backdoor

not. at all. i consider anything i put here akin to standing on my nearest street corner during rush hour, shouting into the darkness
confused how anyone could think anything otherwise.
@theolodian @ahnlak That is my understanding too, fwiw. I am not going to adjust any TRVs yet, but rather look at heating curve and flow temperature.
@neil @theolodian weirdly, the internet seems to suggest that I'm wrong but they work here so... *shrug*
Dear peeps, I've got music creation friends with longstanding FB/Insta etc presences and I'd like to suggest to them that they add the #fediverse to their public profile.
So... before I do that... are there options to simply 'port' their existing postings from FB/Insta etc to a fedi (Mastodon?) instance/account?
These folk are... musicians... please be mindful!! 😂 (Yes, I'm one too, but have a virtual evil twin that's quite techy)
Proton has stopped using their Mastodon account
