@healyn It was a big deal! We all skipped class to go see it
@healyn (not that it was particularly great)
Investors once expected a $2T valuation for Anthropic’s IPO, then $1.5T. Now, days before its planned roadshow, one investor says it may need to fall to $1T.
It seems the dream of infinite tokens, infinite data centers, and infinite layoffs to fund it all are coming undone.

End of an era?
@jalefkowit you lined up to see Goldeneye?

Government must move away from toxic social media platforms | Open Rights Group [Video]
We shouldn’t be forced to use toxic platforms that track and profile us in order to get public information.
Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube track and profile their users so that they can target advertising towards them.
Their business models fuel online harms by pushing more and more extreme content to users. Despite this, these platforms are one of the primary ways that government departments share public information.
Tell your MP to support the EDM calling on the UK Government to ensure that all public sector social media content is published on open, decentralised and federated platforms!

@healyn It replenishes, or it can, anyway. The first Bond story came out in 1953, and the first movie in ‘62. So the original Bond fans were already pretty ancient when I was lining up with my school friends to see Goldeneye in 1995. Now we’re on like the third full generation.
Maybe there will be a fourth, if they can come up with a fresh enough take on the character to reel in new people. But nothing’s guaranteed

I wish my votes were even more public. If I’ve taken the time to downvote your bullshit/nonsense, I want you to know it was me. Same with upvotes.
@ai6yr @billyjoebowers @USelaine This is a thing! There's a music store chain over here called Fopp, and the middle-aged people (not exclusively but mainly men), forever frozen in their 20s were a clear genre of staff. And yes, the real 20-something hangers on plugging them for their vast music knowledge...also a thing.
I wouldn't feel like a failure if I became one of those guys, honestly. But my mother would likely feel differently. 🤭

Film preserves far more than movies. Home movies and "useful cinema" can document everyday life, work, education, and communities, yet much of this material remains at risk of decay or loss. 🎞️
Archivist & filmmaker Rick Prelinger makes the case for scanning films so they can be preserved, shared, and studied. 📽️

Data has to federate, so nothing is going to really be private like you mention. I think it’s unreasonable to expect anything otherwise. I don’t see a point to hiding votes because of this. If someone starts stalking or harassing their voters for some reason, have a reporting system and handle that.

not. at all. i consider anything i put here akin to standing on my nearest street corner during rush hour, shouting into the darkness
confused how anyone could think anything otherwise.

They’re not private at all, I’ve never been under the illusion that they were.
I like it, have some guts, stand on business. If people want to downvote they should be willing to attach their name to it, internet points are fake anyway.
