Kind of weird how long it's taken to find the next James Bond. The last movie came out like 5 years ago and the most die hard fans of these flicks are getting pretty fucking old
@jalefkowit @healyn stop trying to make young James Bond happen
@jalefkowit I wonder if the next Bond actor is gonna be under contract for multiple movies, because I can see the box office receipts dwindling in a hurry
the character is inherently a charismatic, chauvinistic asshole, and I'm not sure it's a sustainable franchise as boomers die off
I say this as someone who very much liked the Daniel Craig ones
@healyn Eh, I dunno, they said Bond was doomed when the Cold War ended too, and they eventually figured out how to deal with that (after the awkward Timothy Dalton years, anyway).
Though the franchise is under new ownership now for the first time in decades, who knows what Amazon wants to do with it. Maybe there’s a mandate that all the Q gadgets have to be from Amazon Basics or something
@jalefkowit sure, but I'm not talking about the actor changes, I'm talking about the built-in fan base
@healyn It replenishes, or it can, anyway. The first Bond story came out in 1953, and the first movie in ‘62. So the original Bond fans were already pretty ancient when I was lining up with my school friends to see Goldeneye in 1995. Now we’re on like the third full generation.
Maybe there will be a fourth, if they can come up with a fresh enough take on the character to reel in new people. But nothing’s guaranteed
@jalefkowit you lined up to see Goldeneye?
@healyn I think that’s part of the problem, they have to figure out how to reinvent James Bond to make him relevant to the modern world and viewers under age 50
