@philnelson The guaranteed way to get a note left on your door
@MLE_online not if you don’t leave the block
I walked in the front door on this gray rainy day, and wondered if I had left the kitchen lights on.
It's the apricot tree turning yellow outside the kitchen sliding door.
BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG
Here are some drawings I found in my notebook from 2020, when my daughter was 12. We would write down the names of animals on pieces of paper and put them in a jar, and then pull out two names and draw a mashup of the two animals.
It was lots of fun. I'm not sure if my daughter has kept hers (they were great). Here are three of mine.
There's Tamandua ⨉ Octopus, Blobfish ⨉ cow, and wombat ⨉ armadillo.
If you've got young ones in the house, it's a great way to learn animals and have fun drawing.
What's the next bubble going to be (yeah yeah, it's multiple choice)
@cwebber I thought the whole “AI” bubble was literally eugenics already…?
this might be the rudest meme i've seen all year
so naturally i'm sharing it everywhere.
@mcc oh yes. and I believe you mean "fully autonomous weapons"
@cwebber Well, maybe, but not necessarily

What did you watch CNN, BBC? In your 20’s you were doing that?
I don’t think I watched what I wanted on TV for more than an hour a week in my 20s.

Did you watch the news much when you were in your 20’s? Because i didn’t, hell I still don’t. Plus taking 50 credit hours with a little toddler baby raising them alone took every bit of my time.

If your “anti-abuse” security requires your software to be closed source, then your software is not secure. Well built software can be open source, and still secure.
You imply that your code could not prevent abuse if it was known, so, no offense, but that code must be pretty bad!
I like the fediverse because it distributes power. I, as a user, have the power to choose my instance, choose my moderation, choose the structure that my social interactions are built upon (threads based, microblogs, etc) and if I dont like something, I have the power to change it. Thats why open source is such a perfect fit to that model. Closed source federation then, sounds to me like you didnt get it.
a message to #democrats:
🗣KEEP PUERTO RICO OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MOUTHS
you are acting like parasitic colonialist garbage, talking about #statehood without even spending a second to talk about the Biden-Obama brainchild of La Junta, a dictatorship by #WallStreet #finbros that has been ruling La Isla since Obama’s second term.
🗣 DON'T FUCKING TALK ABOUT #STATEHOOD IF YOU WON’T TALK ABOUT YOUR CORPODEMS #FINBROS DICTATORSHIP IN #PUERTORICO
🇵🇷 😡🖕🏽

This means directly targeting classical liberalism and the governments collusion with capital. Simply getting them to use mastodon or whatever does mot target the root cause.
We have 2 mobile operating systems, both under the control of American big tech oligarchs. That is not freedom. It is the illusion of choice. It is technological tyranny. Most government services require these OS’s exclusively to use many public apps and services.
Most governments are allowed to image your devices and back them up to some police state server indefinitely because you cross a border. That is not freedom or democracy. It is technological tyranny. Companies are allowed to sell you a device and brick it or completely change the value proposition without consequence. The ability to exert control over your purchased hardware and software should not even be an option for any government or corporation.

Damn… We should really start fighting for a world where people making the option of not using digital technologies are respected, as written in the Off-Punk Manifesto…

When covid started I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t on Twitter or reddit or Facebook. I was in college, doing that and had a baby. We watched cartoons and when they slept I’d read and write. I had no idea until no one was on the road or at Walmart with me. I had no idea how to even get information about what was happening, so I went to the county website and found nothing. my professors stopped livestreaming and sent helpful information about it the same week so I got it.
Turned out the city had a Facebook page that people were getting their information from. And there was also a Twitter.
Then my kid gets to be school aged. The fucking school used Facebook and twitter to communicate with parents. I missed so many programs, and lacked information about everything that happened there.
Fucking hate it.
5. hobble corporate power. Remove 'corporate personhood' and 'shareholder value' mandate. Create 'maximium dimensions' for commercial entities that preclude them steamrolling nation states. Break up Big Oil, Pharma, Tech, Insurance, etc.
6. commit to a national public health. Fuck the insurance industry. Their risk. 😉

7. make decisive gun legislation and start removing military-grade weapons and handguns from circulation with extreme prejudice. There are some socially unacceptable 'hobbies'. People just need to get over it. Let 'em throw knives or bows-and-arrows or whatever. The 2nd Amendment's just resulted in a lot of disorganised idiots with high power munitions. It's not a righteous insurrection, it's a time bomb.

There aren’t many First Amendment principles the Supreme Court has stated more clearly, or reiterated more often, than that the press cannot be punished for or censored from publishing government documents it obtained lawfully, even if they were released by mistake.
