Got bowel cancer and ended up with a stoma. Its not that bad tbh but one thing I do really miss is the ability to pass wind. The satisfaction of letting rip a big fart, especially ones that make you laugh has gone forever. Cherish your farts people, each one is a precious gift.
Caroline is coming on Volts to tell us all how it went! Watch for that next Monday.

Voted. Most people I remember seeing there in a long time. Probably highly dependent on time of day, though, so not sure it's anything to read into.
@bigzaphod fwiw my county had like +70% turnout vs the 2022 midterms for early voting at least
I'm writing this from my new GNOME-running #OpenBSD laptop. Everything works so well.
I can't remember if I ever ran #GNOME before in OpenBSD. I might have done it briefly a number of years ago.
Given the touchpad issue in #NetBSD where my cursor was jumping all over the place, highlighting and deleting text at random, in OpenBSD touchpad tapping is off by default.
I turned it on with wsconsctl and am testing how well I can type with it.
So far it's a lot less sensitive (in a good way).
The only negative so far on this 2017 HP Pavilion laptop is that it suspends but doesn't resume and messes up the filesystem during the hard shutdown. All the file issues do get resolved automatically on the next boot.
This is the first laptop on which #OpenbSD suspend/resume hasn't worked for me in some time.
I think the issue on this laptop is that the keyboard is not "listening" for a key press to go from suspend to resume, it's just dead, and the power button won't do it either.
@adventurex one year the stars will align and I'll get there in person.
Meanwhile, your Twitch coverage is wonderful.
@welshtroll Hope to see you next year, and thank you! So glad you enjoy it! 🤗
And another nice picture I took at the venue.
@jwildeboer @nullagent Damn that’s nice

And, of course, putting aside that in addition to the random elections worker survivors need beat cops and judges to side with them first, THIS DOES NOTHING TO PROTECT ANTIFASCISTS OR MYRIAD OTHER PEOPLE WITH LETHAL ENEMIES. A journalist who documented nazis? The state will hand your address to them
Now there's an instinct to see this as liberals prohibiting survivors, antifascists, journalists, women online, etc from casting a vote. But it's worse. Because, as mentioned, the entire system is designed to get you registered to vote against your will. THEY'RE MURDERING SURVIVORS TO GET MORE VOTES
Again, a survivor has to have gone to the state to complain about their abuser or stalker, they have to file charges etc, and then -- after a pile of work on this front -- some random election worker gets to pour through your paperwork and hand down judgement on whether they think you should live.

This is honestly one of the most grotesque paragraphs in the entire legal system.
If you don't want to vomit and burn down government buildings after reading it you truly don't understand a single fucking thing.

Today seems like a good day to play a ton of “The Chrystal Method”.

We try to be very flexible and accommodate all voters. But my precinct is not clothing optional.
@paco I'm sure it would encourage a lot of video recording.
You may be shocked that the voter-registration system is an obvious murder machine. And you may assume *SURELY* they have some sort of anonymity checkbox...
You have to plead your case to a random official with documented paperwork proving restraining orders etc:

life #protip: put a bayleaf bush in your garden.
it’s cheap, grows fast, and is green all year round. no need to buy them ever again.
the flavour released is so much better than the dried stuff from the store and they’re HUGE.
@hbons yeh, there's a different flavour from fresh to dried, you're not supposed to use fresh in many dishes as it's way too intense.
It's meant to add subtle flavours to a dish. There are dishes that do ask for fresh, but they're very specific
I know that watching the US election isn't healthy, but I can't look away. Can anyone recommend real-time news sources? Who's liveblogging the train wreck?
@skyfaller instead of watching just one, have you considered watching nine simultaneously?

When you register to vote in Oregon (and most other states) your name and address are made public. ANY ABUSER CAN LOOK UP YOUR ADDRESS.
Worse, each time you engage with the DMV or a few other systems, you're automatically registered to vote. Even if you opt-out they will repeatedly add you back in.

@0xabad1dea My mom had a tiny yapper dog who was growling and super aggressive at a german shepherd that was easily ten times her size. After a few seconds of tolerating this, the dog just put his paw on her head and pushed it to the ground and kept it there for a bit. "Fight" over. It was amazing.
