Taking the bus home after dropping my car off for some servicing and saw that rides were free today. Pretty cool that MST isn't charging for rides on election day! One less reason for people not to get out and vote!

Blimey, MI5 escaped lightly here!
> The Lady Chief Justice today announced the Divisional Court’s decision that it would not be in the public interest for the court to initiate contempt proceedings against individual MI5 officers or MI5 itself ... arising out of the giving by MI5 of false evidence to the High Court.

@neil I guess I'm not part of the public then?
Hello Fedi, I'm still unemployed after a month with no real prospects on a job yet. If you know anyone in Cyber, I was a SOC analyst on detection systems. I'm working in between applications to build services to make up for lost income in the meantime.
My bills are paid for November, but I'm trying to help ease the burden on my family who are helping me. If you can spare anything, it would mean a lot.

YAY!!! 😸🎉
DEV featured my TypeScript Halloween article!
It’s a little haunted-house adventure about:
🧟 `unknown` zombies
🎃 validating nested objects
🍬 composable Type Guards
🧛 Count Any
And the main lesson:
`unknown` isn’t the monster. Unchecked `any` is. 💀
Thank you DEV for featuring it! 🙌
I was researching tardigrades and discovered this kickass thing on wikipedia.
It's a video of a tardigrade walking.
apparently this book was:
A NEW YORK TIMES TOP 10 BOOK OF 2025
ALSO NAMED ONE OF BARACK OBAMA’S FAVORITE BOOKS OF 2025 AND A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY NPR, VOGUE, TIME MAGAZINE, THE NEW YORKER, AND MORE
sorry for the CAPS, this is a copy past from amazos
@rustoleumlove @FiddleSix LOL I imagine (without reading the book or its description) it would more likely be NEED A DIVORCE AT SEA 😂

Fold your own dang laundry, people.

@me_valentijn LOL okay, you've got an excuse to get a laundry folding robot.... if you wanted.
@ai6yr
... I like my piles 😐
That's so wild. Ethiopia banned all gasoline cars and is now moving to EVs that are basically driving for free, because the hydropower plant is producing more than enough energy for the whole country.
I’m really happy to see that for the people and Ethiopia and it feels like this is the future.
Notable ofc, how western car makers from Europe and the US are completely missing out and China is taking over.

@drsbaitso @mattblaze @adamshostack @simplenomad That… is entirely vulnerable to the power going out.
@Simplicator @drsbaitso @adamshostack @simplenomad even regular ballot scanners require electricity.
Most polling place setups include UPSs to deal with brief power outages. Extended outages can be a difficult problem, however.
I don't know who created Big Walk, but I'm trying to figure out how we get them to take a Big Walk to the Polls!
@cabel I am voting for Evil because of this post (I turned in my ballot yesterday)
@ai6yr
Folding laundry is for suckers (and people with functional muscles). I just throw everything into different piles on the shelves in my wardrobe 😏
@me_valentijn LOL okay, you've got an excuse to get a laundry folding robot.... if you wanted.
Just a single data point, but voting at my precinct has been VERY brisk. Haven’t seen this volume in the three years I’ve been working the polls. It’s lunch, and we’ve already logged numbers we usually see at closing. #elections #midterms #democracy
Washington State, please go drop off your ballots today, and vote NO on all three Republican ballot initiatives!
- 1 compels schools to out gay kids to their parents
- 638 forces girls to get genital inspections or expensive yearly lab tests to play youth sports, evil
- 645 repeals a tax on the rich
Even if WA is generally not a big impact on national politics, these initiatives are very important to life in our state. Please drop your ballots off before 8 PM, don't mail them if you're able!

Apple has begun rolling out its "always-listening" tech to Watch users, which summarizes conversations & allows live replaying of the last 15 seconds of audio. It's very gross, and no way for others to opt out.
I wrote back in Sept. why this Apple feature is a very bad idea: https://this.weekinsecurity.com/watch-what-you-say-apple-opens-the-door-to-a-nightmare-world-of-always-listening-tech/
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
