Anyway, PSA to no one in particular: sewing is an extremely, extremely useful skill to have, of PHENOMENAL usefulness, and it's a shame it's not respected as such (at least, not in the US -- and based on the extremely low value placed in sewing worldwide, probably a global thing). So glad the many folks here have pointed me in the right direction on this. And it's also a shame it's been pretty gender-role limited. (at least for me, a straight male...) I highly recommend everyone and anyone at least learn the basics (repair and some modifications), but if you're into math/puzzles/3d modeling/etc. it is a natural fit to go well beyond that.

As an admin on Fedi, I used to welcome new users, fight Nazis, and suspend trolls.
Now all I do is fight against the endless army of soulless scam machines, forever marching against our server walls in an attempt to destroy the community we've built here. It's exhausting and disheartening. At least the Nazis and Trolls were real people who would get pissed and fuck off eventually, but the LLMs will run as long as someone pays the electric bill for them.
Even though they aren't dead yet, I've already written eulogies for my close family members that I'll read out at their funerals. It pays to be prepared for inevitabilities. You never know when it'll happen & I wouldn't be in a good mental state to write anything after the fact.

I am an anarchist because I do not accept that anyone else has the right to tell me that I am not allowed to try to make the world more just or fair.
No one gets to tell me how much suffering is a reasonable amount.
No one gets to tell me that the right thing to do is to let injustice continue forever.
I will not accept that. I'm so tired of being told "there's nothing we can do" when there are all kinds of things that could be done, if we simply remember that we can change the rules we make.

I'll break my n/n to add that we need to understand & remember the US would never, ever accept having its public/edu/mil/gov sectors hosted on foreign owned infra, lest of all abroad. Even that of a close ally.
Meanwhile, most of us, in some way, are taxed peasantry in the infrastructural equivalent of the Roman Empire, where the US gets to have its sovereignty and eat it too (at least the corporate Maxim of it), while the rest of the world does not.
This is an abject 'normal'.
