You’re not alone in this wish, though I’m sure that doesn’t surprise you. I sort of accepted it as just part of how a federated reddit-style forum would work, but if there’s a way to address it, that would be very cool.
Just so you know, if you hear about anything really bad happening this week in the news, it wasn’t me.
Folks, please share the link for our Fediverse Multimedia Grants.
We have funding for creators to make podcasts, artist's portfolios, webcomics, music stores, video streams, or brand new kinds of channels here. And we pay developers to help them be successful.
Our deadline is Wed 4 Nov 2026. It only takes a few minutes to apply.

You've got to fight for your right to party.
You've got to fight for your right to read books.
You've got to fight for your right to wander mossy forests.
You've got to fight for your right to haunt wild and windswept shores.
You've got to vote.
Charged it up with a few seconds of blacklight exposure and....
merephone news: I just bought some better wires for my breadboard. So tomorrow I'll rewire breadboard & see if I can now read my input controls...
Alonzo immediate plans: I'm studying up on how to implement non-trivial typechecking.
“we started our first book club: Anti-Despair Book Club...The idea was to pick books...that would do more than just distract or comfort...actually provide some tools or models for how to face the hardships &alienation of our times...Just the act of reading together...was the bulwark against despair"
She by and by followed me up, and to very bad words from her to me, calling me perfidious and man of no conscience, whatever I pretend to, and I know not what, which troubled me mightily.
@samuelpepys Well Sam, you are kind of the perfidious poster boy.
I mean I looked up perfidious in the dictionary, and they had your picture there. I visited perfidious.com and it redirects to your web site. You've got perfidy down to a 'T'.
Wrap it up. @fediwrapped_en
@box464 @fediwrapped_en Wrap, wrap, wrap, WRAP IT UP! 🎸
Mother Jones: Using AI to Plan Backcountry Trips Is Getting People Into Big Trouble (Nov. 1, 2026)
“I think they kind of turned their brains off.”
@ai6yr I mean, it's A way to thin the herd out by letting the dumdums remove themselves, but... yikes.
Our local library is surrounded by big old houses with big old gardens, many of which seem to have apple trees - so every autumn the library has hundreds of apples which you can help yourself to: apple bonanza! We helped ourselves 😋 and these baked apples were very tasty, even though they did get a little out of hand, oops …
We've got 'the whole architecture' of the Atlas Network, now exposed, rigorously by Prof Mohan Dutta and his co-authors, and we have the evidence required to blow this wide open for the benefit of the globe. And we have the moral obligation to do so.
Note: Project 2025, created by a founding Atlas Network Member, has been half-implemented by Trump's Administration in the US. This stuff if freakin' terrifying. They are evil, institutionalised.
"NZ is a laboratory for experiments' - from the Atlas Network's own site - experiments that are harmful to people. They want to tear down constitutional and indigenous protections that guard sovereign nations against corporate/oligarch ownership of the whole globe.
swimming in dopamine + norepinephrine ➡️ restless leg syndrome becomes extremely bursty
I wonder if I need more iron in my diet. supposedly restless leg may be an (iron × dopamine) related phenomenon.
I haven't noticed, personally, but I don't pay attention to my iron intake. however, if I don't take a magnesium supplement daily, my restless leg gets much more frequent and worse after a couple months without Mg.
@PhillyCodeHound hopefully that’s dropped off at a polling location, as it’s way too late to put it in the mail. 😬
@evoterra Poll place. Election box!

Goodreads removed RSS and some people are asking for alternatives on Reddit; maybe worth pointing to BookWyrm and NeoDB?
Goodreads removed RSS and some people are asking for... #fediverse #goodreads #bookwyrm #neodb #rssfeeds
Both fediverse softwares that support user reviews for books, both have RSS support natively (no Piefed/Misskey bridge needed), and some comments also seem discontent with Amazon's mismanagement overall.
Did this recently in a meeting, explained why I don't "use the AI" and don't need it and think it's a bad idea and it doesn't do what they think it does, and sucks all the fun out of the job for me ... and got positive feedback at least from 2-3 others, including one who told me in private "I feel the same".
So at least not everyone is truly on board in the same way even where king slop rules
(On the other hand, my attempts to get support for installing a Betriebsrat failed, 🤷)
@quincy Did you already see my article on my wish for the EU?
https://www.draketo.de/software/curb-ai-impact
Regardless of what they decide to spend on AI, spend at least 1% of that on improving programming for humans. Examples: Improve programming tooling, nurture template libraries, extend and integrate documentation, support maintainers, foster standardized interfaces, champion responsiveness, de-bloat stacks.
My expectation is that those 1% would actually bring more benefit than the AI spending.
Glad it worked out for everyone in the end at @wadjeteyegames and look forward to enjoying the hell out of the inevitable jokes about this at @adventurex if we all survive that long.

Do Animals Grieve?

Yes, they absolutely do.
@BruceMirken @benroyce @Doug_Bostrom @dcatoffm It still makes me spit and hiss - when they voted in Biden - BUT - democrats did not have a clear majority and so Republicans were able to obstruct and then voters whined about nothing changing. YOU DIDN'T FUCKING VOTE IN ENOUGH PEOPLE SO THEY COULD MAKE CHANGE. Or the idea that things can change in an instant in an economy as complex and huge as ours - or that world affairs are not vastly more complex than single issues. So unsophisticated.
NEW: In August, a tribe elder warned reporters. The Trump administration was racing to build a second border wall near her ancestors’ final resting place.
The construction was bound to disturb Native American remains.
