Those were the days...
After seeing all the recent bullshit from @bitwarden the second @aliasvault completes their independent security review, assuming no major issues, I'll be taking my paid subscription and moving. After all, if you can't trust someone to not screw over their #FOSS community, can you really trust them with all your most important passwords?
@Blort @thelinuxexperiment @bitwarden @aliasvault How exactly did they "screw over"? In fact, nothing changed for most users and GPL-licensed builds are still available.
so I think maybe the developer wanted the player character to be a man
or maybe they just wanted the player character to have a penis and they're actually aware that non-men can have those
because apart from the goblin calling the player character "dude" and the receptionist calling them handsome after seeing their dick, nothing even implicitly gendered has happened related to the player character
@ben Porn devs only ever accounting for straight white men playing their games is friggen tiresome

Political Memes

I'd say it's more bad than good, but not exclusively bad. It's possible that the body has wrestled through their disputes in some sort of discussion already. The question under vote is already a compromise. I think that's rare, though. Few compromises are perfect, and they usually leave a residue of a few holdout votes.
Sometimes unanimity is required to show how important the conclusion is. Those kinds of decisions are rare though. I'm less concerned about occasional shows of solidarity, and more concerned about groups that agree 100% for vote after vote.

Fediverse
Is anyone here familiar with coves.social? It's using a modified version of the Photon frontend, displaying Lemmy posts, and claims to use AT Protocol
We banned a spammer from this instance recently, and I went to see what instance it was coming from (in case there was more)
coves.social/community-guidelines
Coves is built on the AT Protocol, which means itβs part of a larger decentralized network. Your account and identity exist on your Personal Data Server (PDS), not on our servers. These guidelines and our moderation only apply to the official Coves AppView at coves.social. Other instances of Coves or other AT Protocol services have their own policies and moderation. If youβre banned or have content removed from our AppView, your AT Protocol identity and data on your PDS are unaffected β you can still use other services on the network.
They do credit Photon and they have released the source code for their modified frontend: coves.social/legal
I also found this on their GitHub: github.com/BrettM86/tidepool
Tidepool is a read-only ActivityPub β atproto bridge for the threadiverse. It follows Lemmy/PieFed/Mbin communities (FEP-1b12 group federation), materializes their posts, comments, and profiles as social.coves.* records in a virtual PDS it operates itself, and serves them over com.atproto.sync.* so the Coves AppView indexes fediverse communities exactly as it indexes native ones. Votes stay bridge-side as aggregates behind one sanctioned XRPC.
I think itβs neat that someone is working on this, but Iβm a bit concerned that itβs read only from the threadiverse:
- They would suffer from a problem similar to what we have, when someone sets up a Reddit repost bot. Users interacting with some content while not knowing that their replies arenβt reaching the original poster
- they get content without giving content back
If you come at life from a place of lacking, then you will never be filled.
EVER.
But we're coming into a time of radical change, I feel it in my marrow. So I might end up completely rethinking this, come the new calendar year.
Maybe mastodon.nz would be a better place for a @disintermedia account? Maybe all my shitposting could happen on a Wafrn account, with ATProto syndication turned on? Maybe the iridescent.nz Mastodon could host the official fediverse.party account I want to set up?
Lots to think about. Exciting!
(5/?)
For now, keep watching this account for Disintermedia themed posts. Including Boosts of relevant stuff I posted at mastodon.nz.
You can also try following the @disintermedia.net.nz Ghost blog via BridgyFed (or RSS, no email delivery yet). Let me know if it doesn't work for you!

@Andres4NY I mean the bearings in the _pedals_ are shot.
The wheel bearings, I was able to salvage. The wheels are feel decent now, particularly for what they are.
I am considering going back in and taking out the caged bearings and replacing them with free bearings, but only if I can get this pedal and crank situation sorted.
@moira Oops, yeah, I meant pedal bearings. π
It can also mean that the real decisions are being made somewhere else. If they are, then whatever that decision-making process is, it should become canonical, instead of hiding behind what seems to be a meaningless voting process.
