Progressive taxation on wealth and income
As a straight man, I'm not homophobic (hopefully that's obvious, ) but I have a quite unusual obsession with Michael Sheen the Welsh actor. Not his looks, as a person.
Like, I'm not really down for that, and as far as I know neither is he, but if it inexplicably came up (ooh matron) yeah maybe, probably (our respective wives being ok with it).
Maybe a firm handshake would do the trick.
Anyway, I like Michael Sheen and I'm glad he's not on here, but wish he was (not in a sex way).
What's the dumbest conlang I could make a locale for Gamelord in, Esperanto?

@TonyaMarie hehe yes. "Nicole" was a pervasive spammer. No matter the instance, we were getting near-daily DMs with the same copy-pasta text with a full intro, which was a little off but also kinda oddly endearing. Like, "hi I'm Nicole but you can call me the Fediverse chick" and other details that I've forgotten but I recognize them when someone is riffing. Her presence ebbed and flowed over months, because they just recreated the account on different instances.
I don't even remember what she was advertising. But the most ubiquitous spammer on here ever.
@munin maybe I should use my boundless free time and clone an ACARS terminal as, like, a meshtastic node or something.
@munin oh you can buy them:

Adding stuff to my gopher hole, to update in a bit.
Oh, I wanna put my retrocomputing stuff there.
Now I've spent the last hour fixing my Atari 8-bit disks so they don't have junk on them.
I feel ya, Bryan Cranston.
I have a few things moved over to
gopher://cyberhole.online/
I had problems with permissions, as usual.
Then my about.txt works in Lynx, not in Lagrange. I AM SURE THIS FILE IS FINE!
…
Turns out Lagrange doesn't like tabs in "text" files. Fucking what. Is this some Gemini shit? I hate Gemini, buncha Gopher wannabes.
Also I'm having some annoying problems with my host, but I'll either figure that out this week, or move off & reupload elsewhere.

That’s the neat part: you don’t! You need to work a lot and barely survive so rich people can get richer and have more power and status, silly.

You mean as in an auctioning platform? That’s legally a bit harder to achieve, as auctions usually have the rule that if nobody outbids you, then your offer is binding. To enforce that, instances would need to verify your identity. That’s easy for a larger company to do, but not that easy for hobbyists.
And then, to be federated, you would also need to make sure that other instances that you federate with uphold that standard.
Also, if you do auctions across international borders, how do you even prosecute somebody who does not obey the rules of an auction?

We could start a buy/sell/swap space using existing Lemmy technology, if we left the messy details for users to figure out foe themselves.
Messy details add up quick, though. Payments, currencies, mailing addresses, reputation, conflict resultion, returns, scammers.
But “Craigs List” solved basically none of that on day one, and went on to be pretty successful.
So it’s possible.
Pushy guy from work came back to ours, expecting a threesome. Told him to do one but had pity on him enough to suggest he spend the night in the shed. Woke up to blue lights. He'd broken into our neighbour's shed.
@fesshole
In my limited understanding of these things, the etiquette when declining to sleep with someone you've brought home, us to offer them the sofa, not the shed.
This lovely cuddly couple is a pair of shingleback skinks. And yes, these two are in fact a couple, and they are in fact cuddling.
Closely related to the blue-tongue skink, shinglebacks form lifelong monogamous pairs. They don't live together all year, but in the spring a bonded couple will track each other down (sometimes over very long distances), mate and raise a young or two, and then part ways until the next year. After they meet up and before they start mating, they usually have a 6-8 week long period of the most absurdly cute behaviour - they nuzzle and nudge each other, lick each other's faces, and snuggle up next to each other.
Their newborn are *enormous* (roughly equivalent to giving birth to a four-year-old), and the father is on guard duty while the mother recovers. While he doesn't help his young forage (no reptile does), he does watch over them and will defend them against predators. In the period where he's guarding first his mate and then his kids, he doesn't usually eat anything himself ... for about 2-3 months.
The mother is unable to eat near the end of the pregnancy (due to the enormous embryos), and has to focus on recovering and feeding afterwards.
They live for 50+ years, and if a shingleback dies, its mate will often sit vigil over the dead body for up to a week, and will often refuse to eat for months afterwards.
you know what I find really really upsetting? startup culture. specifically, the engineering culture of "make up a specification for other people to use with a hope that it becomes so ubiquitous that you can hold people by the balls with it, but the expectation that the likelihood of success is so low you should write LLM-grade prose and code for it".
i've dealt with a lot of that type of specification in my career. this is why i'm spending so much time polishing git-pages despite it not even being my primary competency or goal. it has a very real chance of becoming the de-facto standard way to host pages (if you're not going with CloudFlare or whatever), which means it will probably outlive me. i have no intention of making people curse the day they've found out the project exists by doing a bad job
