@Sylvhem It's no good; the about box was *also* written by the GNOME project, so of course it will be no more helpful than the GNOME project's own launcher.
@mcc this is so funny, a couple of years ago i wrote a story on Cohost that was all about how vexing it is to figure out what a program's name is on Linux and how in the end the answer is probably unsatisfying
@jackemled@furry.engineer @davidgerard@circumstances.run
The only one I can think of is NeoOffice which is long dead and even when it did exist was for the Mac only.
@daemonspudguy @jackemled yeah, that stopped, designed LO as its successor and pluby put a bunch of his stuff into LO.

"If Democrats win big, will they learn the right lessons from their victory?"
In a word? No. In several more words? "What, are you new?"
@mcc Relatedly, it’s only “agentic” software development if your software has a +2 charge. If it’s +1, that’s agentous software development.
@davidgerard Wasn't there another OpenOffice fork, or is that one AI generated too now?
@jackemled The Document Foundation kicked out Collabora Productivity, who made a bit over half the commits to the codebase, for entirely unclear reasons (Collabora doesn't know what they are either). Collabora now makes Collabora Office/Collabora Online itself. I don't know what Collabora's slop policy is.
When I see somebody post on how useful they find generative "AI", an angry, defensive post is sure to follow like clockwork
Any circulation of a pro-"AI" post on a site with artists, writers, illustrators or the like, will reach the ears of somebody whose life has been severely hurt by the tech
Given the scale of the harm being done, angry responses are basically inevitable.
And kinda fair, tbh
@baldur When your business model is "any creative work by anyone anywhere in the world is immediately stolen"...
Certainly this will lead to an era of unparalleled creativity and productivity, right?
Seems you post a lot of duplicates. No wonder your posts get deleted if you keep spamming exactly the same post multiple times??!!? And then you violate community rules… After that you seem to be doing ban-evasion… I mean… Seems to me like Lemmy is working exactly as intended?! This isn’t a place to dump random spam posts? You gotta learn what this place is about.
You can’t just throw some dogfood at people and demand they like it. You’re not the center of the universe. Maybe start your own community if that’s your thing. You’d be able to make up your own rules there. There’s a button in the top menu bar.
@mcc Kate’s just chillin’, but she’ll happily pass you a piece of paper and a pen if you ask for one.
Nobody knows where she got all this paper.
Nobody asks.
@drsbaitso "Kate is this… is this *zig-zag*?"

Hey fedi friends, how do we feel about open plan offices? (We’re talking, not even much in the way of partitions between desks.)
Please boost for reach?

@psistarpsiii I... Have coping strategies, at this point. They're a fact of life in my industry. 😞
@thebiologistisn They recently discovered a molecule which suppresses the heat of a pepper that occurs in summer peppers. I wonder if some of them have that and it's suppressing the response at first?
@Canageek It's definitely possible. I'd read a little about it, but not enough to assess how significant the effect could be.
How long after rain until the wild mushrooms start popping up? Might have to take a couple of tours around the property to known locations and record some data points 😁
@mcc I tried what you did, and in my case, after discarding each document the window closes, I don't see the "Open a document" window.
This is Ubuntu 26.
@adriano okay. can you explain, how exactly did you get those windows open before that without using the dock
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.
Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too.
Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.

At Repair Cafe the other day, I had moderately successful day.
The thing I remember the best was some wired headphones, which I think lost some of its hacky (a piece of tape) electrical-insulation. Very simple construction, nothing more than a couple speakers in some snap-fitted plastic.
Also there was a cassette player in a casette/radio/CD combo unit broke. And I found myself recommending laserprinters over inkjet, due to heat damage in an existing inkjet.
