Thanks to @jessamyn 's excellent posts, I have seen several people express interest in starting a library tech drop in at their local library, which is a fantastic idea. Libraries are all about people helping people! I wanted to share a thread with a few tips for people looking to start a meetup/help group at their library.

First, check to make sure a thing like that doesn't already exist - and if it does, don't think "they have it covered" - go help! Programs like this always need more people. If they do have one already, think about how you might help get the word out, it's so hard to get the message out about these things to people who need them. (1/4)

@iamkonstantin People buy Apple stuff off a 3x3 grid of consumer, pro, mobile, by low, medium, high. But it's an investment, so most are checking all the review sites & commentary, that's why there's 5000 Mac blogs & podcasts.

Windows people either buy the cheapest junk at Walmart, or are issued a thing by work.

Linux is the weird cult behavior. They get junk hardware that's on a compat list, junk slop OS, try to combine them, then get frustrated & install Windows. Then they do it again!

I ran into the field at the top of our garden to get this, talking out loud all the time to make sure our local bear(s) knew I was there*. It was so cold! But when I got in, Steve had the wood stove burning nicely and the house was getting lovely and warm.

@fabiosantoscode @djlink Ye, I've seen several games that do glyph autodetect and then also have an override (and plenty more games that have mods to swap textures if this is not available). Presumably because a meaningful percentage of people want specific glyphs (be that due to gamepad masking via shim or just familiarity despite holding a different physical device).

What we learn from this postscript is:

A) Fascism is inherently self-defeating, which means that fascist systems have to constantly reform to remain intact, and those fascist reformers are sometimes mistakenly perceived as good people rather than as the means by which fascism perpetuates itself.

B) Successful corrupt systems, whether fascist or not, usually build a facade to legitimise themselves; this facade does not match how power actually works and isn't meant to, but distracts from it and conceals it.

C) Because fascism is so deeply tied to aesthetic, fascists are very vulnerable to this sort of facade, either believing in their own or railing against other peoples'.

D) Fascists have shit for brains, even the smart dangerous ones, and so they tend not to understand any of this.

It’s strange how sometimes, rarely, “being in the Epstein files” can actually prove your good character.

Norman Finkelstein is a good example. Some guy kept copying him in to emails with Epstein which he ignored. Eventually he quoted the testimony of one of Epstein’s victims and essentially said he would throttle Epstein to death if she was his own daughter.
