Fediverse
Hello from a small new instance
Hi all. I've been building my own little fediverse setup at dboft.com to fit how I like to read, and I'm grateful for all the work and community that makes something like this possible. Looking forward to being here with you all!
objection: companies should simply not hire men with sexist biases
okay but they do
objection: men should do the work of fixing their own sexist biases
okay but they dont
objection: designing software development processes that work around sexist biases lets men off the hook
okay but im here to make software not PURGE THE SIN FROM THE HEARTS OF MEN holy shit
@Xibanya wait, your job isn’t to purge sin from the hearts of men? Sure you can’t just fit that in tomorrow afternoon…just like a quick little 2 to 3 hours of overthrowing patriarchy? 😅
When did tech stop becoming fun for you?
@BlackAzizAnansi the actual unicorn startup I was working for hit 10M ARR and cashflow positive without taking on any outside investment. They used these figures to pitch a very nice VC investment package. The VC influence had them bring in MBAs and completely changed the culture of the company. Making a good product was deprioritized and all of the talent left, including me. The place I work now isn't much better in terms of culture but at least the on-call isn't nearly as stressful.
This time Counselor Troi makes first contact with a new, obviously stereotypical, alien race but actually is the true source of anime on Earth.

@lzg How about: To create a site, you must delete a site. It doesn’t even have to be your own.
@jon i’m into it
It's been a lot of fun trying the Duo out for a week, but it feels like I've gotten to use an extraordinarily polished prototype -- not a finished product that I'd want to buy and carry.
@gruber A great read. This basically confirms my decision to wait for a year or maybe three.
That sounds about right.
Lessons Learned from 15 years of Opting Out of Big Tech -- with thanks to @markhurst, here is the talk I gave at GEL 2026 earlier this month, now online via PeerTube and soon to be found at the Internet Archive.
Enjoy!!!
4 is a perfectly good key as long as the adversary only gets 3 guesses.
@mattblaze I am baffled, both that these folks thought it was a good idea to implement it this way, but that it took so long for it to get discovered. Makes me wonder what else like this is going to be next.
I cussed at my phone tonight for some reason and my wife asked if I had just lost @thegame and now I had two things to cuss about.
@fasterandworse What comes to my mind when I think of Firefox?
I've already made an illustration about that.
@davidrevoy @fasterandworse This is so perfect. 100% accurate.
Gotta love it when the lies survive long past the time the liars found them useful.
