Rather glad I don't rely on an CMS running on PHP and prefer statically generated websites. My thoughts are with admins burning overtime.

A small grove of historic American chestnut trees has become the site of resistance against an AI data center in West Virginia.

In the wake of the compromise of the eMudhra Intermediate CA, we strongly encourage all Mastodon administrators to make sure their systems are up-to-date.

For those using our official Mastodon container images, we just rebuilt them (with the same tags) so they contain the latest updates to the list of CA certificates. Please update them as soon as possible.

For more information about this compromise and ways to check if your server is impacted, please read https://emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com

@zzt the fucking best

A few weeks ago, we started noticing a number of applications on pixelfed.ca, where the user would say that they needed to register for a course. I don’t have full confirmation, but I’m fairly certain that this is a legitimate wave of signups from students at a Canadian university.

I’m sharing this post for a few reasons:

1. I thought it was neat

Personally, I’m excited that people are trying out Pixelfed and using it in coursework like this. If you are one of the students, now seeing this post, welcome! :) I hope that the project goes well, and that you have a pleasant experience on the platform. Feel free to share any and all feedback.

2. Some of the posts may look like spam at first

You might be seeing similar looking posts from different accounts on your feed. My guess is that the course has specific requirements and example templates. However, there’s also plenty of real content (ex. artwork, photography, etc.), so I don’t think it’s going to be disruptive

3. Please report anything that seems off

As always, you can report inappropriate content through the UI. For urgent issues, please email us at support@pixelfed.ca. You can also DM admin@lemmy.ca as there is overlap with our Pixelfed and Lemmy team members.

Oh huh, the guy who broke the embargo for the latest major PHP CVE has started posting about shitcoins and even a pump.fun link.

Guess this was all just part of a crypto scheme, then! Fun (/s).

@rpbook Pledged! Thank you - I very much look forward to reading this.

At the end of the latest #TheSkepticsGuideToTheUniverse, they discuss social media as a public square.

They correctly identify that two big problems with the marketplace of ideas is that many are intellectually dishonest and the discussion spaces favor antagonism. Trolling gets favored.

Doesn't fedi fix this? A lack of algos and moderation for trolls where nobody has absolute power. Voting up/down replies would help too.

I wish more people here cared about this goal.

Is today the day people realize that full disclosure is responsible disclosure? The FUD around the embargo nonsense has made things so much worse.

@jalefkowit @APBBlue one for today, one for yesterday

@apps You might be a bit late on that one: they already release patches.
